Leupold Magnification ring difficulty

Does anyone else find their magnification ring difficult to turn?  I have a 3-9 Vari-X ll, and it seems a little too hard to turn.  With gloves on in the wintertime while hunting, its really fun.

You have your scope ring to close to the adjusting ring on the scope. When you tighten your rinds down it clamps the interior moving parts. At least that is what seems is happening to me.   You might of damaged the internal working of the scope. Try moving the rind or scope away form the adjusting ring on the scope. It is not just a Leupold thing, any scope will do this if mounted incorrectly.

Yes and it's a common complaint lately. My 1x4 VX2 is guilty of it and the ring is nowhere close to the power ring. Leupold tightend up the internals  but too much IMO. You can send it back and they'll loosen it a bit but you're out the shipping cost. I just live with it.

In the case of my last Leupold, a 2X7 mounted on a XLR45-70, the problem is a combination of what Redhawk said & just being stiff.
Before I mounted the scope it was very stiff, more than it should have been. After I mounted it with Warne rings, it takes a Bull Moose to turn it. I am going to send it back.

My scope ring is not near the adjustment ring, so its not that.  The internals are too tight I guess.  I think I'll send it back - again.

Leupold are suppose to be somewhat stiff but yes I had a Leupold scope that was so stiff I could barely turn it. They fixed it no prob. Once you do sent it in they will refill and test the nitrogen and clean the lens and test the internal adjustments no charge so you will get something for the headache.

Ever think about a reticle change for it? Now would be the perfect time. Not sure what the price is, somewhere around $60.00?
You could get the heavy crosshair, or german #8, etcetera. Check their website for other reticles you might like.

I think very few other scope manf. are offering the reticle change service. I do it every few years on one of them just to feel like I got a new scope. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new scope and like I say it gets the full inspection with fresh nitrogen added.

I bought a used Vari X III and could not turn the magnification ring. Turned out that both vertical and windage adjustments were maxed all the way by whomever and it bound the internals up. Sent it to Leupold and they put the scope back to zero in elevation and windage and it worked fine. I was slightly embarassed for not checking that. Probably why I picked two of them up somewhat inexpensively.
