sloppy, or oversized chamber

My Uberti 1885 hiwall apears to have a poor fit between my 45\90bell cases and the chamber. I am curious if anyone else has this same problem? I have read of someone wrapping the end of case with masking tape to improve chamber, case relation. The reason I believe that this is my problem with accuracy is that I have tried several different kinds of bullets, keeping all other variables the same and I continue to get a 5" to 8" pattern with all of the bullets. chronograph reads that velocity spread is within 20 fps. ???

Are you sure thats your problem? You might want to make a chamber cast to get some good measurements.

I'm not sure that's the problem. You don't provide a lot of info such as twist rate, bullet weight, MV and if the bullet is seated properly in the throat.

The groups you describe are not the norm. Three inch groups with just about any rifle is getting borderline. I assume you are shooting at 100 yards from a bench, you don't indicate.

I get eight inch groups from a smooth bore flintlock.

Sumpthin don't add up here, more info please.
