New to T/C, not any more...
« on: January 01, 2007, 11:45:45 PM »
Always wanted one but never got one until this CHRISTmas. Went to the range with the 14" 3030, and the 44mag 14". I really didnt know what to expect. After the first intimidated shot from the 3030 with 150gr., I ended
the day with 40 rounds emptied at the 50, 100 yard range, shooting 3" groups..not great but a little more practice and I can get it down to 1.5 maybe. Also, after the first 20 rds. of 3030, I loaded up the 44mag with 240gr. jhp. The 3030 has a 2x6 Bushnell on it, the 44mag was shot with open sights at the 50yd. Grouped within 8". 20 rounds with it, put the 3030 back on, and 20 more rounds with it. With the pach. grips, 14" barrels this gun is the most fun I have EVER had. It has as of now replaced my 300wsm for deer and hogs. Hands down, the most FUN factor in any of my guns. Suprisingly accurate, recoil is nothing. Damn, I dont know what I was afraid about. And my hand dosent hurt from shooting all this in a 3 hr. period. My 12 year old son even shot the 3030 at the 50yard range, and he ended up with a 5" pattern with 4 shots. Just wanted to let someone know, that as being new to this, firing only a 357 mag. with 8" barrel s/w., anyone feeling intimidated........dont! Nothing but smiles.. ;D ;D ;D

Yeah, I know. Now since I have been baptised, I'm looking for another caliber, without reloading. Also,
does anyone happen to know anyone that is selling thier 3030 14" barrel? My son has a T/C now to, and wants a barrel.
Because hes not getting mine. ;D

Its a slippery slope you've just stepped onto.  Soon you will find (like me) that another frame is needed.  Then more barrels, mounts, scopes - another frame .............

I had a Contender in 7-30 Waters and really enjoyed it.  Traded it for a long gun about 6 years ago and later really regretted it.  So I had the opportunity to get another just a couple of weeks ago.  I reload so caliber choices are seem near endless.  I have been to the range twice with it and have shot groups at .641 and a bit less.  so I have no doubt you can get well under 1.5 off of the bench. The factory ammo may limit you more than the pistol.

I will be using a shooting stick next to see how that goes.  Just wish I could find some info on hunting with the contender etc...  Cannot seem to get my fill of info about them. :(
