rookie questions

I'm a real rookie.  Just purchased my first - a 25 caliber Coehorn Mortar .

I have some  Goex fine blackpowder rifle powder  - can that be used or do I need to purchase Goex
powder made specifically for cannon?

Re loading - I would appreciate any advice about methods for loading ie size of load and best way to load and any
other information that would be usefule to a newcomer.

For a mortar that small 4f is best and 3f is acceptable. Cannon grade powder is very nearly the bore size and not needed or rhe best powder for under 1.5 inch bores.
I have no ideas on loads for something that small.

Try a charge of 4F that is 1/4" deep in the bore.

If you are talking about one of Brooks .25 caliber barrels, it is strong as anything. If it isn't a Brooks, I don't know anything about it.

4F is the way to go.

You will find that in the little guns that without any wadding nothing spectacular will happen.... It will just sorta go woosh. Toilet paper wads can be your friend here. The .177 caliber nano-naval I made for my son sounds like an inch and a half firecracker. You should be able to accomplish that. It isn't going to shake the house or blow out windows, so don't try to do that... if you get that urge think "bigger" :-)

Just rember that a wad is still a projectile, and at short distances it will still be dangerous.

The wad will also smolder, so be careful about where it goes so you don't light anything on fire.

You will find a smoldering wad on the ground about 10 feet +- in front of the gun.

Sure Michael, although my load specifics I'll have to keep between you and me and a few other followers of your work.

You know that several of us have tried unsuccessfully to hurt one of your barrels.  ::)
