January Bears
« on: January 02, 2007, 07:55:32 AM »
I new that Browns/ Grizzs will exit their dens periodically through out the winter, but I had never seen it. This past wknd I was down by Thompson Pass and watched a Brownie on the side of the mountain rummaging around his den. Of course all I had was a 22-250, but I am going back down in a couple weeks for some more riding and may have to take the 338.

I'm curious if you ever went back for this brown bear? I can only imagine how nice a hide would be on a January bear. I'll back you up with my custom 375 H&H. ;D

I've heard a lot of stories, but havent seen one.  It depends on the weather, if there is a big warm spell, thatll usually wake them up.  And heck yeah, getting them right in the middle of a nap...  A buddy of mine got a blackie last spring and when he cut it open the stomach was empty empty, he had just woken up, really good hide.
"At least with a gun that big, if you miss and hit the rocks in front of him it'll stone him to death..."
