ProHunter Rechambering?

I am looking at a rifle in 7mm STW and instead of a custom bolt action was thinking of rechambering a 7mm rem mar to 7mm STW. Has this been done before by anyone?

You may want to check on that one reallly carefully.  The pressure range of the STW maybe exceed the safety tolerance of the Encore lock up.  I know its safe with the 7 Mag and the 375 H&H but those are lower pressures I believe.

Pressure at 53-54kcup and case head size is about the same as that of the 458 Winmag, looks like it may be doable if the belt dimension works out. .375H&H is 3kpsi below the 7STW.

Maybe not tho, I don't see the .458winmag listed as available on an Encore barrel!! Just the 416 Rigby

I checked out my Nosler reloading manual and the case dimensions look pretty similar other than length to the 7mm rem mag.

What do you mean by belt dimensions?

Since they headspace on the belt, if the belt dims are different, it might not work, the 7STW drawing doesn't indicate the belt depth, the 7mag is .220".

I have looked at the parent cartridge for the 7mm STW, The 8mm rem mag, and I belive that the belt dimensions are the same. Also I belive that the 375 H&H was the parent case for the 7 mm STW. Any idea what pressure the prohunter is good for?

the fastest way to find out is to talk to an expert..give SSK Industries a call.  They will tell you if its safe and if so how much they would charge.  the last time I checked a rechamber was around $70.  WWW.SSKINDUSTRIES.COM

Thanks for the link, lots of good info on that site. How about the 280 JDJ in a 28 inch barrel? From what they show there in a handgun it should be a screamer in a rifle.
