Here's a link to the story about the 600+ lb. hog killed near mine and Digger's home 20.

This story seems a bit fishy to me.  There are a few inconsistencies that jump out at me.

First:
Quote
I realized afterwards that it had actually been much closer than I had initially thought.  It's large size fooled me into thinking that it was further away.

This seems to be backwards.  Wouldn't a larger animal make you think it was closer than what it really was?

Second:   Why does the story say that the hog was estimated at 600 - 650, but the caption to the picture states that it is 750?

Third:  Why didn't anyone else see this pig?  He states that he used pictures to get an estimate.  If it were me, I would have taken the hog to the busiest place I could to show it off. ;D

Fourth:
Quote
I went back out the next morning with a flexible tape measure and my camera.

Why did he leave it out in the field overnight?  The only reason I leave an animal in the field is if I was unable to track it and needed some help.  Up here, if you leave your kill out overnight, the wolves will have had a feast before morning.

I hope the story is true and that the reporting agency just screwed up, but with all the phony stories nowadays you've got to be cautious.  I would love to think I could see something that size through my scope soon.

It's preety  common for the farmers on the Red River south of here to leave the hog's in the field because it act's as a scarecrow to the others. I've got a friend that has some land on the river, and they were tearing up the sod farm on his place. He shot 16 in a trap.and 3 more in the field. I told him the next time he had some in a trap ,or shot some in the field to call me and I would find someone to haul them off and butcher them. You can believe it or not,but I personally have seen hog's even bigger than the 600 pd. one. I've shot 13 in the last few months myself and I'm always amazed at how big they are when you're standing over them.  Digger

They do get big in this part of Texas and Oklahoma. There was one killed in Wise County which would be around Decatur, Tx that was 625 lbs. I had a picture if I can find it. Looked about the same as that one. Evidently there is a Hog removal service in Weatherford, Tx that the rancher called. Said he had a 250 lb hog he needed removed or destroyed. The guy went out there, found him but it wasn't 250 lbs ... almost killed two of his dogs before he could shoot him.

Guys, two things here.......First, the article calls it Pigzilla.  Second, Hogzilla was killed on River Oaks Plantation in Alapaha, Georgia.  That is where the people from National Geographic dug it up, measured it, weighed it, and photographed it.   This whole story sounds suspicious to me.

The cnn.com hog doesn't look like any truly feral hog I have ever seen, and where I live, there is probably one rooten up mud within two or three hundred yards of my house right now. That looks like an es-cape-eeee domestic. :)
