replacing transfer bar ?
« on: January 05, 2007, 07:39:55 AM »
I recently picked up a Topper mod 88 at a pawn shop.  The gun is good shape but someone has arkansased it up.  The striker bar is missing and the hammer was rigged up to hit firing pin.  I have located parts at Brownells,  is this a dyi or should I take it to the shop?  Thanks for any info you can give.

There are instructions for a trigger job in the NEF centerfire forum in the sticky thread labled "FAQ and Help"  Perklo's instructions come with excellent photos and hints.  Scroll down the thread a waysMany have disassembled their receivers and put them back together.  You can decide if you want to tackle it after reading the information.  http://perkloafm.com/ will get you there as well.

I stopped by a gun shop today and the gun smith asked if the gun had the thick or thin bar because they were not interchangeable.  Anyone ever hear of this.

H&R and Brownells both only list one transfer bar(lifter and striker) assembly, it's part number S02043 on H&R's parts list. I'd say the smith was thinking of either another brand, or the old H&Rs prior to 1987.
