Well, it's finally all put together and is quite the nice package. The name says Ruger, but looking "under the hood" it's a bit different then you will find on the shelf!
I had some "stuff" laying around and decided to get rid of it or use it. So with this Ruger Action I chose to build myself a light recoil super accurate sniper rifle. However I did not want it so heavy that it was brutal to pack around all day.
So I used a #4 contour Montana hand lapped 25" rifle barrel in 25/06, with the Ruger action, both bead blasted dull grey. I swapped out the factory trigger for a Timney, and bedded the whole works in an Accurate Innovations laminated stock. The barrel also has a deep crown which probably makes the actual length 24.75".
To this I added a 4.5-14 Leupold B&C 40mm Scope. The rifle has plenty of heft, I have not weighed it yet but it's probably heavier then my 375HH so I figure right about 10 pounds.
With the first few trial groups, they shot little tiny clumps of holes all of which were overlappeing one another. The Recoil, if that's what you call it, it just enough to let you know it was not a misfire!
I have absolutely no idea what I will do with this yet, but I wanted something to screw around with at longer ranges with light recoil. I'll have to get it out to shoot longer rangees but for now I think this is a dandy rifle cartridge in a very nice weather resistant package too!
The fit and finish of the project looks at least as good as factory. It's really a nice well done rifle with the excellent Timney trigger it's certainly different then the Ruger you think of when you hear "Ruger"
