45 ACP Handi?
« on: January 05, 2007, 05:59:36 PM »
I've heard or read about Handis in just about any caliber one can imagine.  Got to thinking the other day if anyone had ever heard about a Handi in 45 ACP.  Seems like it would be a nice short range carbine with good stopping power.  A 44 magnum would probably be better, mostly I'm just curious.

MSP would love one also, but you two will have to settle for the 45 Colt BC and .444 Marlin which will be available sometime in the next month or two.

I even tried to send a 223 20" barrel to Oregunsmithing to be rebored/chambered to 45 acp, but he doesn't work with the .451 bore.

.44 ACP Handi...be still my heart....I am activlely working on finally getting my .35 Remington Handi,
now if I could just get my next dream Handi, a .45 ACP,  I would have all the calibers I want.....

except the .348 Handi, the .358 Winchester Handi, possibly the .338 Federal Handi, then there is
the 30-30/.35 Handi, maybe a ..22 Jet Handi, then just possibly the........Oh heck, I'll just keep
trying for a .45 ACP as soon as I get my .35 Remington in my hands and go from there....

and do a little checking on the .44 Mag before you buy one, many problems with overbored barrels
and poor accuracy with factory ammo, a problem we all hope H&R is going to address......

I agree completely. A 45 ACP would be just an over all fun caliber! For close range varmint slamming, light weight pack gun, and smacking metal plates. I would be interested in the gained velocitiy too.
For that matter even a 9mm, 40S&W, and 30cal Carbine would be fun too.
But I'd opt for the ol 45 if I had to choose.
Keep your fingers crossed that the new 444Marlin barrels are of correct size and good rate of twist 8)

Hi guys, I am discussing with another member here about having a .45 ACP Handi made up. I also think it would be a great economical and enjoyable gun to shoot as those of you regulars know I have wanted one for a long while. I can see it with Kieth design semi wadcutters for plinking and small varmints, and hotter jacketed 180 0r even 230 grain HP or SP loads for hunting larger Varmints and just plain FUN. I also know deer have been taken with the old .45 ACP and under the proper circumstances I would do it also, especially out of a Handi instead of one of my 1911's. I will keep you all informed of how I make out and when and if I get one made up will post pictires and some range and woods reports. I can see if this works out there may be many other .45 ACP Handi's in our little (world wide) circle of Handiholics....<><... ;D
