Primer for 44 mag loads

I am a bit new to 44 rem mag reloading although I have loaded for 260 and 223 for a few years. I decided to use the Federal large magnum pistol primers for my full power hunting loads with 24 grs of H110 under 240 gr Horandy XTPs. I am working up mild target loads using Rainier 240 gr plated bullets and 8 gr of Unique. I am trying to get between 900 to 1000 fps. Are the Federal mag primers good for these mild practice loads? Does it matter?
I am shooting a Ruger SRH with a 9 1/2" barrel with open sights.

While I only load .44s for rifles I have never had to use magnum primers for any load. I know some reloading manuals say to use them for H110 but that is my favorite full power load and using Winchester ‘regular” primers I have never had a failure. These also work using Blue dot, Unique, Red dot and several of the AA powders. Happy reloading!

I use 6.3 grains of titegroup with a 200gr lazercast RNFP for about 1100 fps very mild out of a S&W 629 and Marlin 1894Cowboy 24 in. barrel and 18.0 gr of 2400 with a 240 lazercast RNFP for about 1460 fps a little more bite. I shoot cowboy silhouete with these loads. Forgot to add Federal Large primer not mag.

Slower burning powders, like H-110, need magnum primers to assure consistant ignition. If your manual says to use magnum primers, use them. It wasn't written in there for no reason.

if your using any recently manufactured winchester lg pistol primer your using a mag primer. they advertise them as a combo std./mag but there for the most part the same as the old mags. Ive shot alot of 110 with std primmers even in heavy 500 linebaugh loads but that was in the summer and if your going to use them in cold weather id go mag. CCi 350s are the std primmer for use with 110 as there about the hottest. I use them and fed mags depending on what is the most accurate with the load. I do try ww occasionaly but usually just dont have time to deal with another variable. If your using unique or any faster burning powder. For that matter about any powder other then 110 or possibly aa9 or lilgun use a std primmer youll usually get better accuracy with them

If the manual uses magnum primers then so do I. If they use a standard primer then that is what I load - any change in components can change the pressure in a load. If you follow the data in the manual you will be ok as long as you are dilligent in watching for signs of excessive pressure and you stop when you find them and reduce your loads to before you saw pressure signs.

Hodgdon, Lyman, Speer, Sierra, Hornady = reliable resources
so and so's pages on the internet = not reliable resources
Alway check loads you find on the internet against manuals.
NEVER exceed maximum listed loads.
