.22-6mm
« on: January 08, 2007, 01:28:59 PM »
I got my .22-6 mm Savage acouple of weeks ago. Real happy with it so far. I haven`t put it on a good solid bench to see what it will really do yet, by shot a 1/2 in 5 shot group at 100 with already, 4 of the 5 where in the low 3`s. The group was shot with 80 gr. Serria match bullets at 3,570 fps. I did shot the rifle in the monthly off hand rifle shoot at the club. Got 1 second, 1  4th, and finished 6th in the other 3 shoots. There was 23 shooters so I didn`t feel to bad, but the gun is to nose heavey to be a good off hand rifle. Hopefully by spring there will be several coyotes fall to it. I still need to find a final load the work up my elevation chart for 500 yrds and behond. Wind drift will be 1/2 of the best you can get from a .22-250, 15 in. at 500 yrds. with a 10 mph cross wind. Burns alot of powder for a .22 cal., but it shouves that heavy bullet pretty fast.  ;D

Is your 22-6mm in a long action? I have a 22-243 in short action that I am shooting the same bullit with reloader 25 and getting the same speeds. The reason I ask is that I just sold my short action remington in 6mm because in a short action rifle I couldnt seat the bullit out to the lands and still fit in the magazine.

I am useing a Savage action. I bought a .30-06 for the action to build it, and I am seating into the lands with it. I can fit rounds in the mag. the will not chamber because they are to long. The reason I went with the .22-6mm instead of the .22-243 Middlestead was because that was the reamer Fred had and once you get to cases as over bore as these are alittle volume doesn`t really mean much.

Isn't the .22-6MM called the .224 TTH (Texas Trophy Hunter)?

Dave,
I believe that you are correct. There is also a .22-6mm imp. out there though and I`m not 100% positive, but about 90% that you are correct.

sin man,
I`m useing Rem. brass and haveing no trouble. I do dip my case necks in number 12 shot with mica in it befor I size. Number 9 shot will work and so will graphite. I like number 12 shot because I also load .17 cal. rounds. The reason I use mica instead of graphite is that it is not as black.

I`m still fire forming and have not taken time to work up a final load yet for this gun, but fired it yesterday at 500 yrds. for the first time. It was zeroed at 200 yrds. so I dialed in the scope with what I had figured from the blistac chart in the back of my Serria manual. I shot a 3 1/4 in 3 shot group that was 4 in. left and 2 in. low of point of aim in an 8 mph wind. Good enough for a coyote.  ;D
