Trying to upload plans
« on: January 09, 2007, 06:36:46 AM »
I'm beggining to make this Carronade plan in 1/16 scale, & I'm posting it to see if it's clear enough for you to read...
If so, please comment on this or make suggestions as how to improve them.
I'm making quite a collection of drawings at the same scale.
For those of you that like it BIG, it's just a matter of multiplying dimensions  by a given factor &
voila!, new scale...

Thanks

Nice, very nice indeed.

I don't think we have had a drawing posted as a pdf file before.  Will you provide demensions later or do we just scale from this?

One thing I would change is your chamber.  Do away with the howitzer sub chamber and make the vent come in at the top back of the chamber.

That is a very nice drawing, indeed, but it is not a carronade.  It is much too long and too small bored to be a carronade.

Here is a large image of one of the USS Constitution's carronades.

As Rickk says below, true carronades have, instead of trunnions, a lug underneath the barrel through which a pin is passed to secure the barrel to the carriage.

Hy DoubleD:
This is just the 2 principal views of the drawing which needs much more study & detail.
I have received other posts that are giving me some corrections which I'll include.
There are also a lot of small parts that need to be shown apart & in at least 3 views.
Once the drawing is proven I'll add all dimensions which will be in millimetres (Sorry), I just can't work in inches!
The advantage of PDF is that I'll plot the plans in exact 1/16 scale (In this case), so you can print it directly, having it scaled & can use the different views of parts as templates... (It works for me!)

Thanks a lot for your encouragement...

I'll post a line drawing of a carronade when I get home tonight.

Thanks GGaskill:

Carronades typically have trunions that are lower than the bore center.
Some even have a single mounting point on the underside instead of two.
