« on: January 09, 2007, 03:10:58 PM »
Me and my friend are thinking about making your handis into 45-120.Where do you get your brass from? The Norma .45 Basic in Cabelas is at  3 1/4 already is that 120 without trimming. Thanks Tim,Dave.

Yes, 45 basic is 3¼", I got my Bell brass direct from Mast, but the best price I've seen lately is at TOTW.

If the 45-120 brass is too costly for you, as of tonite - Cabella's in Wheeling WV had one (100) count bag of 45-100(2.6") for $69.90.

Search of the internet for "Norma 45 basic" turns up 2.9" brass as their length which is the ready to trim length for the 45-110 and downwards.

Even a cached Norma.cc page refer to this quote and image below.

http://216.109.125.130/search/cache?p=norma+45+basic&prssweb=Search&ei=UTF-8&fr=yfp-t-501&x=wrt&meta=vl%3Dlang_en&_adv_prop=web&u=www.norma.cc/htm_files/case45B.htm&w=norma+45+basic&d=cg-lH0VuN0Hd&icp=1&.intl=us

"45 Basic
Here is finally a Match case for all BPCR shooters. It can be formed and trimmed in to anything from 45-70 to 45-2.7/8 (and about 30 other calibers). The 45 Basic brass is made on the + side to fit better in old and sloppy chambers, but can easily be sized down to fit newer and tighter chambers. The rim of the case is chamfered to make feeding easier in a falling block actions. The 45 Basic is of course made to the same stringent tolerances as all the Norma cases."

Note measurements are in metric.  73mm = 2.87402in. = 2 7/8" = 45-110

Midway has 45 basic brass also, but it's pretty expensive, even more than Buffalo Arms' short Norma 45 Basic. If ya want a .45-120, you'll need the Bertram or Bell brass. I paid $178 a hundred from almost 2yrs ago just after Bell shut their line down and sold it to Jamison.

My friend wants to go with the 45-90.It's not because of the cost of the brass.A buck for the 90 or 2 for the 120 it ain't cheap eather way. He always wanted a 458 Winny to play with so were going with that case, and I want to use 400 gr'ers so the 90 will work. Thanks for the info guys ,if my friend sell his down the road I'll make it a 110 or 120.Can't have Tim with the only one  :D.Dave
