Hi all! I read this indian fishing method years ago somewhere. If you are found hookless for whatever reason, but have fishing line or a small diameter roll of string, get a stout twig an inch or two long (match the twig to the fish size you want). Tie the string around the middle of the twig, and hold the secured wood straight against the string so it and the twig are aligned in a straight line. Push the heavy twig with the line next to it into the side of your prefered bait, and toss into the river/lake/stream. When the fish takes the bait let him eat it and swallow the bait completely. When you give a sharp tug the line, the twig should get pulled sideways in the fish's gut, and wedge tight. Now just pull it in. Keep a few short lengths of heavy wire or whatever in your pack with your fishing gear, in case you run out of hooks.
