Just added a Pro Hunter to the BP stable
« on: January 12, 2007, 02:17:51 AM »
New to posting here but I've been lurking in the shadows for quite some time.....Great place by the way. Anyhow I have a couple of questions about the Pro Hunter. I'm looking for some scope rings and a base and I think I wanna go silver to match the gun but is there any out there that actually come close in color??? Not that my PH needs to wear Prada or anything but I just want it to look good... I'm planning on a Nikon Monarch for it too. I'm planning on running some bullets thru this weekend to start breaking her in...is there a need to lap the barrel? I did on my NEF and my 700ml and I was just wondering if anyone has done it to theirs.

Ok I'm done rambling for now- Mike

First off welcome.

No down to business, I have not found any stainless mounts rings that come close to the Stainless Pro-hunter or Encore SS barrels. On my stainless barrels I just use matte Warne all steel mounts and Warne rings. They look good and match the Pro-hunter well.  As far as scopes, I don't think you can beat the new Nikon Omega scope with the 250 BDC. With 150 gr. or 3 triple 7 pellets or 120 gr. of triple 7 powder and 250 gr. T/C shock wave bonded bullets.

As far as lapping the barrel, I don't see a need for it, I am getting 1 inch groups at 100 yards with my above set up, right out of the box.

Only the gun can tell you if it needs lapping.  If you can find a good load without it, then don't bother!

I have found a quick polish with Flitz or any good polish will make it easer to load and clean. I would not call this lapping but it dose help in the long run.

Thanks for the info guys. I didnt get a chance to shoot this weekend but I did do some scope shopping and it looks like I may be going with a Zeiss Conquest. Also found some 777 at Wally World marked down to $8 lb...bought the last 4 they had.

Look hard at the Nikon Omega scope before you buy that Zeiss, not saying the Zeiss is a bad choice but the Nikon is a great scope in my opinion. The triple 7 is a great idea. Also consider the T/C bonded shockwave bullets.  Good luck and let us know how you make out.  ;D

I looked at the Nikon Omega and seriously considered it but not knowing what load I'll end up with I'm not sure I wanna go that route (BDC) I've never shot that type of reticle before and for some reason it seems a little "busy" for my eyes. I keep changing my mind between a Monarch or a Burris or a Zeiss...as crazy as this may sound my eyes seemed to see the best thru a Burris Fullfield II but for some reason I can't accept that...lol

I shot the 200gr Shockwaves out of my Reminton 700ml this past year and they shot pretty good...killed 2 - 8pts and a Doe but they blew apart inside. All three dropped straight to the ground but my butcher cussed me out  :D Maybe I'll try the bonded ones...As soon as this crappy weather passes I hope to get out and give her a try. Til then I'll keep driving myself nuts  ;D

Any input on the .25acp conversion??? Yea or nay???

Thx, Mike

I order one for my Pro-hunter, but I have not shot it yet in my Pro-hunter. I wanted to wait tell after out last deer M/L season. But the 25 ACP works great in my standard Encore.

I've heard all positive feedback on them so far. I'm gonna order one for the Huntsman so I can toss out the plastic holders and I think I'll get one for the PH as well.
