Frame Source
« on: January 13, 2007, 07:56:26 AM »
Who are the better sources for 1911 frames?
Are  the ones from the KY manufacturer good?
Can't remember the name of the company.
Not looking for a competition frame just a good reliable shooter.
Also who is now selling component parts for the 1911 at reasonable prices-if anyone!
Thanks.

There are some varied choices here.
STI and SVI will accomodate a frame.
Caspian is the best known.
NOW--here is one no one has considered.
There are a number of folks who deal in OLD guns that offer frames and slides-on occasion.
Collectors firearms, here in Houston do this and they have more than one at thier place now.
You can find theme at the site by the same name--collectors firearms--by a name search.
From my reading, there is a number of folks that offer them. Be careful---all frames and slides are NOT equal.

I purchased a new 1911a1 slide kit from SPG along with the lower frame parts too.  I'm ready to get a new frame soon too.  I'm not sure which one yet too.  I know i could of purchased another new lower price 1911a1 but i wanted to do one 1911a1 build from the bottom up.  Its either a Caspian or the place in VT who manufactures frames too.

Yes Mikey thats it ESSEX!!!!  I may go that route to keep the cost down. Its my first build and maybe my shooter/beater 1911a1 who knows how it will turn out.  I have barrel and bushing down now i just need the frame assembly and fitting experience. And how to fit the slide to the frame too.  I will learn how to do this no matter how many parts i ruin(just kidding).  I'm sure i'll be ok. ::)
