That's awesome for a first deer!!!  Congratulations to your son.  It'll make it easier to pass on smaller bucks in the future too, and wait on the mature ones.

Well lets start out that I got to spend the day with my ten year old son on his first hunt. It was quite a day. In Ohio we have a youth only season. It is only one weekend long but is in prime time with the rut.
I selected a site  and placed a pop up blind in position the day before. We got in and set up just at sun up and watched things pop to life. It was not long after 1st good light my son spoted this huge 180 class buck. We watched it tend a doe for almost an hour. The buck was 150 to 200yds out, although the Encore is up to a 150 yd shot that is way to much for my guy. I was preparing to call to it when the 1st of two seperate groups of hunters walked to the edge of the clearing we were watching. The big buck and doe had enough for the day and sliped out. We hung around for a bit then took an early lunch. Came back after lunch and set up the bipod and got him ready. I hit the grunt call twice and as I watched in one direction my son tapped me. I Looked to the left and he was already down on gun. I looked out ahead of us and there it stood at 30 yds. He shoots and the blind is covered in smoke for an instant. I see the deer bounding off.  and my son is asking me if he got it. I here the faint crash and I knoded as the screams start as I try to coach calm. I hold him back and we reload. I make him start out by finding 1st sign and track it. The deer droped about 40 yds from were he shot it. All heart and lung. I could not be prouder. The Encore, Bi-Pod, Lawn Chair, Ground Blind, Shock Wave, and my Son all were perfect. That is the story.
