Ebay is an excellant place if you're a seller because of the volume of buyers and low listing costs. However, over the years, it has increasingly become difficult to find really good deals because of all the scammers and corporate listings.

Ebay bussiness practices look a little "shakey" from time to time. It appears when bidding is at its low end on a item and then you see it jump up out of sight. It appears a bidder might be related to the seller and doing one a favor. QUESTIONABLE!!!

Stupid? For spending their money as they desire? Handi fans should be impressed that people value the Handi rifles that much. Do people keep making these posts just to feel superior? Seems every few weeks someone gets their a..butt in a knot over what other people pay for what on e-bay. Give it a rest!!!! Go back to your sandbox and learn to play nice.

I agree that some stuff can get outrageous. For alot of people on Ebay the money they spent was not earned the hard way. they find something of value list it then sell it the money they made on the item can stay right in paypal. If they see something that they want it is just a click away and no real money spent. Just a bunch of numbers

we (owners of these barrels) should all be rejoicing. The value of our commodity is increasing. The cost to those who send to the factory for new barrels has not changed.

This is also the case with most peoples houses

I have been monitoring ebay lately and I can't believe how high some of the barrels are going for on there. I figure that for about $125 a person could get a new barrel from h&r. That would include the cost of shipping both ways. I see what to me appear to be common caliber barrels going for up to $150 or more. I could see a custom job or a rare caliber going for more but this just doesn't make since to me. Is it worth that much more to just bypass the waiting period and possibly have to do a little barrel fitting yourself?

I guess it would if it was the only rifle u had to shoot other than waiting 8 to 10 weeks or longer for H&R for the barrel program,but 30 dollers is not a lott of money if u r in a big hurry for your new barrel and need it a few weeks for a hunt or some thing i mean dont get me wrong 30 to 40 dollers is a lott of money to some people and not to others

I think $150 to $160 is perfectly normal for impulse buyers not willing to wait ten weeks.

Whats completely nuts is a $87 barrel selling for $255.

Like other have said, there is a lot that depends. What seems insane to some of us is pefectly acceptable to others. For instance, there may be some that do not have access to a gunshop, they may not realize they can send the receiver back for a new barrel. Ignorance isn't stupidity.

here in SoCal my home has gone up in value nearly 2.5 times what I paid for it just 7 years ago. Mind boggling. I doubt I could afford to buy my own house. If someone REALLY wants a 450 barrel but doesn't want to wait.......

I just paid $90 for a SB2 receiver on gunbroker. You can't get a used Handi here for under 200 and that doesn't include the other fees to go with it. I didn't want awhole rifle anyway.

Did they pay too much? Maybe, depends on how happy they are with it.

Because someone asks for $242.50 doesn't mean they are going to get. Knowledgeable buyers and gun owners look at those kind of prices and just laugh. You can save a lot of money on Ebay but you must be cautious and willing to let something go if the price jumps out of sight. For instance 38-55 brass there were some people asking for $60 for 50rds, I hope no one bought at that kind of price. I kept looking and finally found brass at different places for $20 per 50. One guy I did pay $50 for 50rds also included 300 rounds of .379 and .380 cast rounds GC'd so I thought that was a good deal.

What is the difference between these things that are repeatedly talked about happening on ebay vs. someone spending $1.50 for a 20-oz. soda at the checkstand instead of getting a 2-liter in the soda isle for $0.89? Or $0.25 for a can in the vending machine on the way out?
Why don't we have repeated threads about that? The threads would be just as large a waste of time and the reasons for why the thing happens are just as obvious.

Amen, I think my boys are beginning to understand the quick shop thing.

I don't know why I should care if some pay too much for barrels, as long as I don't. They can spend money any way they want. Some folks will go out one night this week & spend $500.00 at a Casino, throw money away & drink a bunch of Beer, in other words they will blow money & hurt their health at the same time. At least these other folk have a barrel to show for their money. Which makes me wonder why I bothered with this thread.

Forgive my ignorance, I am still new here and didn't realize this was a sore subject. I just couldn't believe how high some of the barrels were going for. There was a .22 rimfire barrel going for about $120 after s&h with 5 and a half days or so left on it. I was just looking at a vesapac this weekend at Walmart with the .22 and 410 barrel for $122. Maybe I need to buy a couple of them and part them out on ebay

I could make a profit on one barrel alone and still have a nice little 410 to play with.

and what's the difference between spending $1.50 on a coke when you can get one for $0.89 and spending $13,500 on a new car from a dealership and $9,000 on the same car from a private owner. $4,500. It's not that it's 50% more - it's the actual dollar amount over. You can't compare $.061 to $120+ dollars. Most people can afford to pay too much for a coke.

The real issue is not what people can pay, it is what they are willing to pay. If a so-called "poor" person spends 1.50 for a coke, I guarantee there will be someone somewhere tut-tutting about how they spend their money, or trying to pass a law stopping such a practice.

People individually make choices whether or not they can afford to pay for whatever it is they want, be it coke, car, or Handi barrel. It is not for you or I to determine what is too much for somebody else, but only what is too much for ourselves!

If it is too much for you the solution is simple: don't buy it. If the price really is too high for something it simply won't sell. Obviously, if it sells, the price is acceptable to somebody, even though it is too high to somebody else.

So have fun, and why not consider the possibility of appreciation for living in a capitalist society where you are the one (and maybe your spouse

) making choices where your money goes, and with it you are able (still) to by guns and parts.

Since the factory fits the barrels to the rifles , what are the chances of spending a wad of money on EBAY and not having it work on your NEF receiver because it wasn't properly fitted ?

That's why a lot of barrels end up back on ebay, barrel fitting info is in the FAQs and Help sticky if ya want to check it out.

Man. I was on Ebay last night looking at barrels for Handi rifles and the prices the people are biddin and asking are crazy. One guy, hope it ain't no one here, said if the price got to $170 for the barrel he'd pay the shipping! I reck'n so!!
Course on other stuff I've bought on there folks tend to bid high. Just seems silly to pay more for something used than to buy it new for less. Must be me that's looney.
