Interarms Virginian Dragoon
« on: January 14, 2007, 09:10:15 AM »
I just put a Virginian Dragoon on hold at our local gunshop.  This is a 44 Mag Bi-centennial model with "We The People 1776-1976" engraved on the bottom of the grip frame.  It has a 6" barrel, case hardened frame and is in 90% condition.  Does anyone have one of these that they can share their experiences with?  It just seems like a neat single action and robust as well.....RW

Had one years ago and it was a good strong gun that was very accurate.

I have 2 and prefer them over Ruger which I have 3 of.  Solid guns and very accurate

Read from the following:   http://www.singleactions.com/VADragoons.pdf

It's everything you need to know about them, almost.  Note the comments about the 41mags.

I have one of them, 12" barrel, blue and case-hardened, in the industrial strength box it originally came in.  It was perfect, until in the act of photographing it on it's box, a great gust of wind drove it onto the asphalt driveway.  I shrieked, my eyes got moist, and I nearly vomited.

Maybe I'll send the author of the article a couple of pics of the before, and after.

MajorKAP,  great looking .41 Mag.  Actually I love to find one in .41 Mag but after reading Lee's article I don't see that happening.  I hope your Dragoon didn't substain to much damage.

Blair, why do you prefer them to the Rugers?  I have mostly Rugers in my stable.

I bought one a year or so ago.  It is a 44Mag w/ a 7.25" barrel.  It is beautifully made gun and is accurate as a person could want.  If I find another I will buy it in a heart beat.  I couldn't find grips easily but finally located some on the net.
Buy it and enjoy it!  (The Swiss made a great gun!)

The Swiss do make nice guns.  Unfortunately, DC, yours is not one of them.  The early Virginian (not the Dragoon) with fixed sights and chambered in 357 and 45LC were manufactured by the Hammerli folks.  Subsequent guns were manufactured here in the States.  Those too are of good quality.

Wow, what a great article on a great gun.  I know that mine was a beautifully made .44.  While someof the bluing is gone, what is left indicates that the gun was polished to perfection.  The fit of the parts and the tightness of the action is right up there with any six shooter I have owned or handled.

Thanks for the information and link!

I have the Silhouette 10.5" model which shoots great.  Very, and I mean very, accurate.  Big beefy frame, only out-weighed by a FA or Seville.
