Cass Creek E-callers
« on: January 14, 2007, 07:03:17 PM »
Does anyone have any experiences with the Predator 1 and Predator 2 models?  I was looking at this as a cheap alternative to the FoxPro 3/5 series.  I am primarily interested in calling coyotes but will be in areas where lynx, bobcat, wolves and cougars are roaming.

Is the external speaker needed?

Any feedback, positive or negative would be apprectiated.

Thanks

There are some good guys here and someone will have some information for you. Have a good day Predator.......Joe........

From what I hear they are not very good. I listened to them in a store and decided against them. Some of my buddies bought them and were cussing them. One bought the optional remote and said it cuts out after 2 minutes and has to be reset. At any rate to answer your question no I haven't tried one but the 5 guys I know that did were not happy with them, one is a beginner but the rest are as good or better than the next fellow. As for a cheap alternative, what about mouth calls. It's hard to mess up with an open reed tally-ho, if you've never tried one you should be good enough after 3 or 4 hours of playing around to hunt. Just get one with an instructional tape if it's offered.

I bought their original preditor call, two years ago.  I took it on a float trip into the Brooks Range.  My partner would not let me use it till the last day of the trip.  The Fawn Bleat was the only thing I could get a response on.  There is no Cayotes up there, only wolves.  They did respond and come to the fawn bleat.  The squelling rabbits, had no a affect on them.  The Cayote howl also had no affect.  After I got home back I did call in a Red Fox with the squelling jack rabbit.

When I returned I asked Cass Creek about making one for Moose Hunters.  They did and I took it last year on a Moose hunt in the Alaska range.  It worked good for calling Moose.  I called in a bunch of young bulls, and several Cows, but was unable to bring in a Big Bull.  Again my partner would not let me try the preditor call, he was afraid that it would scare off the Moose in the area.  After our hunt I took the Preditor call out by myself.  The Fawn Bleat did work for Bears, problem was all I got was sows with cubs.

I like the fact that they can be carried in your pocket.  Or in the glove box on a snowmachine or 4 wheeler.  I got the extra speaker, but have not tried it in the field yet.  I intend to use them this spring for Preditors and Bears.  My partner is so afraid I will bring in a Grizzly, he does not want to be around when I use the Preditor call.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
