Anyone here put a folding stock on a Rem 7600?
« on: January 15, 2007, 07:36:16 AM »
How did it work? What one did you use? Did it cause any problems with aiming?

Have any pics?

This is what I was looking at:

Only problem is that I can not mount a scope.

I have not used the product you mentioned, however, I did have an 870 with one of the Remington top folders for a while,  I did not like it, it was noisy, kind of flimsy and the way it was made the thin metal stock portion smacked me in the face when I shot it with the stock extended.  I think choate used to make a side folder for the 7600, I don't know if they still do or not but their side folders for the shotgun are more comfortable for me.  Personally I don't like a folding stock gun unless I am storing the gun in a really tight place, I do like the multiple position collapsable stocks that allow you to adjust for different layers of clothing and such.  I don't know if this helps or not.

Remember that a 20ga 870 buttstock will fit a remington 7600/7400

I've got one of the ATI stocks on order. I'll report back when it gets here.

Years ago I had an 870 with the factory folding stock on it. I liked it. The broader butt plate and the slight flex in the metal stock made the recoil seem less to me, and there's no way a 30/06 carbine can kick as hard as an 870 with slugs.

If I like it, I may be in the market for a 7600P, too! I think the P with a folder would be a nifty truck gun.

It came in today. I just put it on and it looks pretty good. It won't fold with the scope attached, but I'm using Leupold QD rings, so no problem. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance to shoot it.

While I had the stock off, I tried fitting the factory 870 folder on the 7600. I picked one up at a pawn shop for $20, for an 870 project that hasn't happened yet. The fit was pretty close. I think a little rub around the edges with sandpaper would fit it up perfectly. It is heavier than the ATI or the wooden stock.

My real problem with the factory wood is the Monte Carlo comb. I just can't get far enough down to use the iron sights. That and it's too long. The P model doesn't have the high comb and shortening the synthetic stock would be pretty easy.

(added 3/17) Got to shoot a few rounds today. No problems with recoil even with Remington 220gr softpoints. I guess I'll start looking for a 7600P now.

Had a Remington folder, did not like it, got rid of it.

What really useful purpose would a folding stock on a hunting rifle have? The only applications I can think of are not useful to me.

Same as any rifle really.....folds to reduce overall length.

Easier to store and pack.

A folder on a 16" or 18 1/2" carbine would make a nice compact rifle around 26"-29"

I'd look at one of these,

I talked with a guy from Knoxx a few months ago and he said they were going to make a model for the 7600 that had the recoil reduction system even though their web page says different.

The spring kit is the way to go if you want to drop the pull weight of the 760,7600. I had a gunsmith put it in for me. I shoot better groups with mine now. With the spring and the labor I think it cost around 50 bucks. I can't believe how much it helped my shooting of that gun.
