RED GREEN
« on: December 08, 2002, 07:54:14 AM »
GB: Since I brought up Red Green, and you don't know of him, I guess I have to sum it up for ya.  You might find some of his shows on public stations.  Many comics in the USA are Canadian, but Americans aren't generally aware that they are.

Rich Little, Leslie Nielson, John Candy, Micheal J. Fox, Pamela Anderson, and Jim Carey are just a few.

Red Green is the King of Duct Tape - the following are some of his sayings:
- "If it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'"
- "Duct tape - the handyman's secret weapon"
- "Keep your stick on the ice"
- "Remember, we're all in this in this together".

They end each show with "The Mans Prayer"

I'm a Man. (pause)
But I can change. (pause)
If I have to, (pause)
I guess."

The "I guess" is said like "Amen"

Red has a movie out - "Duct Tape Forever" that you may be able to find.  Red's comedy does not generally offend, unlike some of the harser Canadian stuff.

Thanks for the info about the movie.  My favorite words of wisdom on his show was (I am sure this isnt exact)    "Most people wait till they retire to go do all the things they want to do in life and go the places they want to see...but what if when you retire, you have arthritis or a bum leg or something and you cant do all those things or it just isnt any fun..Dont wait till you're too old...Do all those things Now."
Like I said...that isnt word for word, but it is the gist of it.  Great guy, loads of laughs but really hits the mark with serious words to the wise presented in a humorus way.
....make it count

Thanks Jim. Didn't know most of those folks were Canadian or comedians either. Never heard the name Red Green until you guys mentioned it here.

Years ago, there used to be a fellow on Canadian television named Red Fisher who had a fishing show.  The guy used to do a voice over and show 8mm films of fishing trips.  The production values were low, and the show was actually quite boring.

Smith and his wife had a variety show (Smith & Smith), and one of the things he did was this parody of the Red Fisher show under the name Red Green.  The character took a life of its own (a la Bob and Doug McKenzie), and led to the current show.
