I want to send my contender into Thompson and have it converted to easy open. I would also like a new model hammer installed. Does anyone know what they charge for these services. Also what kind of hassle will I have shipping a firearm. thanks Scott

I sent an older frame in last December to have this same conversion done. I shipped mine US Mail and I think it cost me something like $9.00 ti ship it. Return shipping from Fox Ridge Outfitters was $7.00 I believe. Below is what I copied and pasted off the Fox Ridge Outfitters web site. Give them a call a 800-243-4570 if you have any questions.

Contender® Easy Open Frame Conversion: In 1981 Thompson/Center changed the location of the trigger guard pivot pin. The pin is now located toward the lower middle of the frame instead of up front, under the forend wood. This relocation was done to give the shooter more mechanical advantage when opening the Contender. The new models open much easier as a result. We can convert any early Contender frame (Before serial #195,000) to the easy-open type. This conversion includes all the required parts (trigger guard, trigger, hammer, etc.) We need the entire pistol returned to us to perform this operation.

If you want, I'll contact my pard Jim Henry to see if he is doing the conversions and what he'd charge. He's in southeastern CA, and is "THE" Contender Guru of all time (and the only non T/C smith who can get any parts from T/C in unlimited quantities). He also has a huge stockpile of parts for the older frames, does the best trigger jobs (includes tuning the entire frame), and matches barrel lugs to frames. He's done all of my T/C's for years, and the 2 pre-fire frames I just bought from GB (they came today in fact) I will also have him work his magic on. Anyway, just another option if you want me to check.

I contacted t/c about doing my old frame recently. they said that the new stile hammer was included in the conversion. they told me to ship the gun regular ups in pieces, i.e. barrel not assembled to frame. the guy said to list it as gun parts and insure it . he said that you do not have to ship it next day air this way. they also wanted any barrels that I wanted to use with this frame shipped with it. to check fit after doing conversion. also wanted forearm. hope this helps. I think I am going to get mine out to them next week. drichi :-)

I see Jim almost every month at the LASC silhouette match. The triggers on my two frames are about 6 and 8 ounces, safe and break very nicely. He has also tweaked my Marlin and colt model 22. Although don't ask him about that gun. The trigger job was the most of the money ever. He had to grind new angles on the sear and firing pin and does not have fond memories of my colt. To my knowledge he does not do the conversions but the triggers and barrel fittings are the best. IronMonkey
