Dan Wesson 1911's
« on: January 17, 2007, 05:38:52 PM »
Anyone have any experience with these?  How do they compare to some of the more reputable brands out there?  I realize the new ones are being made by CZ, but they sure do look nice.

I have not shot one, but I just so happened to look at one last night.  Seems to be a very well made pistol with some Ed Brown parts and match grade quality at a more affordable price.  I'd pretty much decided on a Kimber, but now I'm not sure.  I may go with the Dan Wesson....

I've been toying with the idea of another Kimber, but I saw the Dan Wesson and it really caught my eye.

I shoot with a couple of guys who have the DW Pointman 1911s. My observation had been that the  pistols are reliable, accurate, and well made. These were a real bargin when they came on the market.  Price increases have put the price up into the mid Springfield/Kimber range. Probably still a bargin.

Outstanding pistols (and revolvers).  Accurate, well made and reliable.  Excellent customer service as well.  I will be purchasing one soon.

I have 3 DW 1911's and they are all very good.  I had to "tune" the extractor on two of them, that took 10 minutes each maybe. They run good now, but I don't have a whole lot of rounds through them.  My newest one is one of their Bobtails in .45 ACP and it's real sweet.  I have had no problems with it at all. The Bobtails are a '70's series (internal extractor), no MIM parts at all. It has a Ed Brown grip safety, Main Spring Housing and slide stop and Wolff springs thoroughout and Trijicon night sights.  Anyways, I like mine a lot, I think I will end up with the 10mm Bobtail Commander eventually.

Well....

I bought a Dan Wesson PM-7 for my first 1911.  At this point I am EXTREMELY pleased with it.  Although CZ now owns Dan Wesson, they are still made at the Dan Wesson plant right here in the the good ole USA. ;D

IMHO....  These pistols are every bit as good as the Kimbers, and nicer than the SA's I looked at.  I also bought a Kimber pro-carry II in 9mm for my wife, so I like em both, but for the features & fit & finish, I liked the Dan Wesson better.

Good luck!

Leper65 that's a very nice pistol.  I'm just going to have to go to the shops around town and check it out in person.  I was really considering a Kimber Pro CDP, but these Dan Wesson's might edge out the Kimber.  I already have two Kimbers anyway.

Another reason a lot of people are buying the Dan Wesson's is that they are model 70 guns.  The CBOB & the PM-7.  So, no firing pin safety to deal with....

If you already have 2 Kimbers anyway, I'd seriously look at one of the DW 1911's.

Good luck.

I went to a couple of shops today, but no luck.  No one had any of the Dan Wesson's.  I'm heading to the gun show tomorrow.  Maybe someone will have some.

DW's 1911 are god guns and unlike Springfield's, they are made in the USA

I'm sure they are good pistols, I have one of their fine 357 revolvers, but , I'm very pleased with my $500 Taurus PT 1911.

I have a Commander Bobtail 10mm and carry it every day. It is an extremely well made pistol. It is an extremely tight and accurate pistol. I have had several Springfields and a couple of Colts and the DW is my favorite.

I have not looked at Dan Wesson's for several years now.
I was almost ready to make one mine but was distracted from the thought and went in another direction.
I was impressed with them from the research I did and would/will/maybe go in that direction in the future--I like the bobtail also and Wesson's in particular.
I was thinking they did use an external ejector on some model's.
