24" or 28"

gonna get a turkey barrel for my Handi. need your opinions on which barrel. 24" or the 28"?  pros and cons?

24", shoots just as well as the 28" and handier to use, does not get caught up in the brush....<><.... ;)

I have the 28" with choke tubes, it patterns great and with some minor tuning shoots point of aim/point of impact, I really like the barrel and have taken quite a bit of game with it.  With that said, if I had it to do over I would go with the 24" barrel for turkey hunting, it is handier to carry, easier to use in a blind and the extra weight forward for a smoother swing is not needed with a turkey gun.  I was going to order a 24" barrel but I think now I have decided to just have a 22" mod. barrel I have cut to 18.5" and threaded for choke tubes to use as a turkey/woods roaming gun.  Thats the thing I love about these NEF shotguns and rifles, they are reliable do a great job, and are cheap enough that you can do a lot of tinkering without spending a fortune.

I'm in agreement with MSP and LEO. Ballistically (is that a word?  ???) the difference between a 24" or 28" barrel is negligible when using bird shot.   If you intend to use the gun for upland birds and water foul as well as turkey you might want to go with the longer barrel to add weight up front for a smoother swing.   But if it is strictly a turkey gun your after go with the shorter barrel for the convenience.

I guess thats what I was wondering, if there was really any differnce in patterning between the 24" and 28" or if the max range was different. It's not uncommon to have a 40 yard shot at a turkey around here.

Barrel length has nothing to do with shot pattern, the choke controls it.  You may get a slight velocity increase with the longer barrel with some shells, but I doubt it will be enough to make any difference in killing range.
