Black Hawk/Old Model Vaquero hammer Question

What is involved in putting a Super Black Hawk hammer on an Old Model Vaquero and a Regular Black Hawk?  Thanks, ET

for the most part a super hammer should just drop in. with ruger though theres never a guarantee of parts fitting right from gun to gun

Not a problem. I did just that with a Birds Head Vaquero in 45 colt. I liked the wide hammer spur better from the blackhawk than the flat sided one on the birds head. I belive I used a Super blackhawk hammer though. I'm not sure if there is a difference.   KN

LS and KN are right. I did just that years ago to a Ruger 45-dropped in, no problem, but mine was an old model. Hunman55

  When will people realize there is no "Old Model Vaquero".  there's the Vaquero and the New vaquero.  The term "old model" refers to particualr Ruger single actions manufactured with what's known as the "3-screw" design.  There's NO OLD MODEL VAQUEROS!

  How 'bout simply using the corect terminology?     The currect model is called "The Ruger New Vaquero" - period.  The previous ones were called the simply the Ruger Vaquero.   When discussing Ruger single actions with anyone half-way knowing of them, the "old model" terminology refers to those Ruger Single Sixes, Bearcats, Blackhawks and Supr Blackhawks manufactured prior to 1973.    Pretty simple concept for most.

  ummmm...wasn't refering to anything you had posted but rather reagrding the correct or actually incorrect, terminology used previously.
  I too have swapped hammers around (NMSBH hammer on a NMBH)  Straight forward swap with just a bit of rework involved on the hammer face.

So by that train of thought theres the blackhawk and the new model blackhawk. And here I thought I had an old model vaquero when they came out with a new one.

I agree with Blackhawk.  Whenever I hear or see the words "old model" refering to a Ruger single action, I assume they are meaning a pre-73 three-screw model.

It's about a stupid thing to harp on as I've heard. If there is a new model then there is a de facto old model.
 If folks are concerned about getting the gun vernacular correct, lets go with something that needs help like Clip vs magazine.
 This sillyness sounds like some of those knot-heads over at sixgunner.

I've changed several hammers from NM Blackhawks and OM Vaquero's back and forth with no trouble.

    I agree on the proper nomenclature regarding clip and magazine. To that I add the proper use of "caliber" and "cartridge" which SOOOO many misuse.  Maybe someday ppl will have the ability to properly identify things.

you guys got to get a life. Who the hell cares what he wants to call his gun After all its his gun. It would be a differnt matter if someone was posting loads and someone could get hurt. But this dont mean squat! I think for now on on here i will call all of my vaqueros old models and some of you know i have quite a few so it will happen often

Yes sir, that's about the truth.  I never give a thought to what someone calls their guns as long as I was clear what gun we were talking about and I don't know how to be more clear when talking about the two different model Vaquero's than calling them what they are: Old model and New model. For the love of monkeys! Just because Ruger don't recall all the OM Vaquero's so they can stamp ''Old'' in front of Vaquero don't change what it is: Old.
 If I was working at Ruger HQ's and someone told me this OM vs NM thing keeps coming up, I'd wonder who was buying these guns.
  Just get out and shoot the things and be happy.

There could possibily be some confusion down the road when ordering parts as the distributers recieve and enter the parts into their bar code scanning systems.
I have only checked out one part so far from an online company that specializes in grips.
The description was
Vaquero (not new model)

This is good enough for me but it is only one part from one company.
I do believe that those grips would fit the revolver that I own that shoots those .45(long) Colts
