Hello all,
Out of curiosity I've been wondering if there are "fail safes" so to speak built into the encore/contender reciever. I know that mauser actions tend to have several vent holes that will vent gases away from the shooters face should there be a case/ primer rupter (granted ammo wasn't as safe as it was back in the day) and vent holes as a safety measure tend to be fairly common on bolt guns these days (even my savage .22 has several).
Looking at my encore, I can't seem to find any vents and it seems that the reciever is pretty much one huge chunk of metal (ie very strong which is great). However, I can't help but notice that the firing pin looks like the point of least resistance - should a cartridge primer fail, wouldn't the gases go straight back through the firing pin hole and into the eye of the shooter? This is very rare espcially with good ammo, but I guess I'm a bit curious how the encore would hold up to overpressure/ruptures, etc. Sorry for sounding paranoid, i'm really not! I just want to see how this rifle works in a worse case situation...
Thanks for reading and for any help you might have!
