Fake Ivory grips for Ruger SA
« on: January 18, 2007, 05:05:23 PM »
Looking to get some fake Ivory grips for 44 man to scrimshaw for me.  Just wondering who has put fake Ivory grips on their Ruger SA, what brand they are, how well they fit, etc.  What type of material, i.e. polymer, bonded ivory, micarta etc.   Any information and experiences you can share would be appreciated.

Ive had decent luck with ajax and lett. Letts out of bussiness now though. If its a stainless gun your probably going to have to do some fitting. I think Eagle grips will custom fit a set to your frame.

I had 3 pair of Ajax grips, two broke after about 5 shots, the 3rd, expensive pair lasted about  40 shots.

You guys have me holding my breath now but the grips I have from ruger have held up well over the past two years & Many shots fired. I do think that there is a difference between the Corian verse Micarta and other polymers.
These grips list for $98 from Ruger and are listed as a fake ivory but I really dont know what material has been used. You can usually find these for much less ($55-60) at your local gun show. They fit at least as well as my factory grips if not better. Strange part is that they are not near as slick as the wood ones were!

There is an E-bay distributor that has a ton of great polymar ivory grips for about any gun you can think of, just do an ivory grip search.  I bought raw fake ivory from him in panels and blocks.  He has ivory and aged ivory,,good guy to work with also, he does fake black horn also,,all good stuff!! also cheaper than anyone else around!!
