1911 GM & Commander recoil spring values in lbs?
« on: January 19, 2007, 07:14:59 AM »
Would anyone have a chart they would share of the compression value in pounds for the recoil spring for both the Govt Model and the Commander for the various calibers. ie 9mm, 38 Super, 45 ACP, 40 S&W, 10mm etc etc. Plus any others you might have values for.
Like 38 AMU, 38 special etc.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
Does this infer that all calibers in the GM use the same weight spring?
Same for the Commander and the Officers model?
That makes it simple enough I guess when switching slide/barrel combinations and etc.
I thought there might be a different weight spring for the different calibers etc.
Again, thanks.
Oh, another thought!
Are the spring lengths different?
Or do all three models use the same length spring?
Thanks.

According to Midway, " Factory 1911 recoil springs are 16 pounds in 45 ACP, 14 pounds in 38 Super, 9mm Luger, 38 Special Midrange, Colt Ace 22 conversion kit, and 19 pounds in 40 S&W.
# The Delta Elite 10mm uses a dual factory spring rated at 23 pounds. Single recoil springs require that the Delta Elite recoil spring guide be replaced with a standard 45 ACP recoil spring guide."

No idea re: length in the officer's, but the government models and Commander models should use the same length spring as the 45.

Thanks again.
I was out browsing about Brownells website as entry notice came up.
I have the Wolff assorted strength springs so looks as if I might be pretty much covered for what I want to do.
I do appreciate the effort you put forth on this question.
Thanks again.
