REMINGTON HELP---DUH???
« on: January 19, 2007, 04:13:03 PM »
I got my first Remington 1858 after over 30 years of shooting Colts.
Got a Pietta with 3 extra cylinders.
Fired 4 cylinders without any problems.
Only problem is HOW DO YOU GET THE HAMMER AND THE PAWL OUT???
I STRIPPED THE GUN DOWN TO CLEAN AND DONT KNOW HOW TO GET THESE PARTS OUT
What's the secret?

Push the hammer down toward the bottom out of of the frame, you will see the pawl (hand) is retained by a small screw.  Remove the screw, pull the pawl down and out, then the hammer will come out the top.

Replace by inserting the hammer from the top, downward as far as it will go.  Place the pawl up into its slot from the bottom, align the screw holes and replace the screw, pull the hammer upwards to align the pivot screw in the frame.
