Encore 10" Hip holster
« on: May 03, 2003, 11:04:57 AM »
I am looking for a hip holster that a 10" Encore will fit in. Will the uncle mikes for a 9.5-10" revolver fit?
What about the one for a 10.5" 22 auto?
I am going to cut the top strap so my scope will fit into it. If anyone has any info let me know....Thanks LEon

I, too, find the available holsters too bulky!

I have two Uncle Mikes hip holsters that I have "custum mortified" by cutting out the front to provide clearance for a scope & mount. One is a full flap military type holster for the 8" ruger MK ll .22 pistol (I think!). I guess they don't make this one anymore, a real shame too, since it provides great protection and security. I'm not even sure it's made by Uncle Mikes, as it does not have a tag. They -UM- made one for a while with a detachable flap (velcro both sides) but I didn't like them - too easy to come undone. The other one I use is for a large-frame 8" bbl revolver. It is a size 4, with the regular snap type strap. This is why I prefer 10" barrels on my T/Cs. Strap on a hip holster, and git! I sure wish they made a full flap type with a velcro'ed on cover to wrap around a scope. That would be the best of all; a secure, semi-adjustable holster, that offered big-time protection for your handgun and scope!
Two tips, when opening up the front of the holster for scope clearance, keep the piece of nylon strap (sight channel) intact. You can then wrap it over & glue it for a bit better look. Also, cut sparingly, it's easy to cut out much, and wind up with a sloppy fit. Been there, done that!,,,,,,,,,,Bug.
