New Handi's and extra barrels
« on: January 20, 2007, 01:21:12 AM »
Hey guys,my state just started letting us use the Hani rifle during our muzzleloader season.Just how good are they? And being that I like to go the extra distance sometimes, what does a extra barrel cost in a different caliber? I was looking at their website and it said that if you wanted extra barrel(s) that they needed to be head spaced at the facory,so what's a barrel cost?If I'm gonna get one of these I might as well get 3 or 4 more barrels just to have them.

P.S are all the barrels drill and tapped?

All are drilled and tapped except for the 45/410 surviver they are very good guns some need a little tinkering on but the prices are very good. Alot of people think if you don't spend alot of money on a rifle you don't get a good one.

okay,by surfin,I found a link by lik2hunt about extra barrel prices with the prices, thanks.Next also by reading I found out about the new 3 barrell combo coming out and the link to RR,that has them in stock, also thanks to those guys that had that info.
I would also like to thank the guys in the 35 Whelen topic,it was one of the calibers I was interested in,I also just started reloading so it's faults I could have lived with, but all in all I would prefer a correct bore.
But all this has me even more confused on other issues,so I am going to put it to you guys and go with ya'lls knowelege about the NEF,it appears there is a big difference in frames(same as TC's)
1) I want the turkey barrel
2)I need a frame for high pressure(I'll get to the why in a minute)
3)I want a 22 or 17 barrel also
4) it stands to my reasoning that the SB3 combo has most of the package I am looking for, except for the centerfire caliber I need(at least2/3 more)
Okay here is the long part,it seems here in my state they want more folks in the woods during muzzleloader season, and they have /are allowing the NEF/HR design to be used at that time using centerfire calibers with modern bullets, but the caliber has to be larger than .38 caliber, not a problem that leaves several factory choices(no they aren't allowing the centerfire in my beloved Encore, otherwise thats all I would use).So is the SB3 going to be the strongest frame and will SB2 barrells fit the new frame,I have found that I am worse than a woman at a shoe/purse sale about my extra's when it comes to add on's an such for firearms(ie;my TC,I have more than enuf barrels but I'm always looking for more,ya'll getting the idea)
So what do ya'll recommend and thanks for any suggestions that ya'll can give me

Start with a Handi in 45-70 and you can add all the barrels you'll ever want or need, except for the 10 gage, which needs it's own frame.NEF will fit shotgun barrels to SB2 frames but not the reverse.

No one has one of the 3 barrel combos yet, but if H&R uses past practice as a guideline, they may not fit any additional barrel to it just as they won't with the Versa Pack .22/.410, dunno, that remains to be seen. You should call H&R and ask them if they'll fit other barrels to the SB3 combo frames before you order one. If that will work for you, you'd better be quick about buying one, they're only making 1000 total of all of the 3 barrel combos.

I would buy the .45-70 for the Mississippi primitive weapons season, then get a complete rimfire Sportster, the .22Lr sells for right around $110, the 17s for $140 or so. A rimfire accessory barrel alone will cost almost $100 with shipping and fitting. Send the 45-70 frame in for the shotgun barrel.

Ditto what Tim said.

Or, just get another complete gun if you want the shotgun too; they go for well under $100 used in my area-I picked up a like-new 12 gauge full for $60. If you want a barrel with choke tubes then by all means send the 45-70 frame in to the factory.

That's what Mac was told by CS, 1000 total of all 3-barrel combos, none to be made again.
