I will stick with my Encore, the Knight line of muzzleloader left little to be desired and I doubt they will be any better.  It is just an Encore wannabe.  ;)
I know how well the Encore's are made and how well they shoot. Why buy a copy when you can have the original.  ;D

The writer did little to back up his claim that this new rifle will obsolite the Encore.  If it stays like it is now I doubt it will be much competition for the Encore at all.

Who knows? I think TC has their act together and puts out fine products - I own a lot of them.  But, based on such a brief article, it's hard to say.  Knight will have a long way to go to compete with the versatility and choices that Encore owners have.  I look at it this way - since we like Encores, if someone comes out with something as good or better, that's only good for us.  Competition benefits the customer. :)

Notice the writer as only seen it, he does not know how it shoots or has taken it out to test one. It is just his opinion and to obsolete the Encore is a joke as well as the writer of the article... ;)

Even if it was all the writer thinks it is, the limited number of available chamberings would keep me from getting one.

I bought some guns years ago from an outdoor writer who used them for an article evaluating them.  They were muzzleloaders, and he wrote an extensive test, but in reality he had shot one shot with one (and not cleaned it) and never shot the other two.  Of course that didn't stop him from evaluating them, including targets and comentary on loads shown in his article.  I lost some faith in writers then.  He is no longer at large, serving a prison term for defrauding one of the locals on a collectable gun scam.  I wonder if he is still writing gun evaluatons from the klink.  They would be as good as the one he did on the muzzleloaders.

I for one would not speak to harshley about Knight, they have always been a stand up company. I own several Knights, that have all performed exactly as the company advertised. I have bought just about every ML'er on the market today from the major companies, atleast the better quality ones. As previously said I wouldn't give up my Contenders or Encores for nobody, but am always seeking new products. Although the Knights I still have don't see Hunting much other than range time, ever since I bought a Savage smokeless ML'er most of my others sit. Savage a while back was the new kid on the block when it came to ML'ers.

My critique is more of the writer than the gun.  It is  premature to say the gun is going to obsolite the Encore when he hasn't even shot it yet.  The Knight may be fine.  But lets not declare it so prior to a real test.

I second what Keith L said, but I still stand behind my thoughts on Knight. I have owned a couple of the Knight rifles and speak from my personal experience. I just don't like the design of the knight rifles or the accuracy I was getting or lack of accuracy. JMHO

Randy Wakeman is generally given to exuberant language and overstatement.  He has also always been very complimentary to TC, especially the Encore. Although lately I see him comparing the Omega to the Savage and rather slamming the Omega.   A lot of people either like Randy or don't.  He is actually very knowledgeable, but highly opinionated.  He has often gone after the lack of proof testing in imported muzzleloaders, which I think is good.
Knight is a good ML company, and most of their rifles are unquestionably very accurate.  Now, I don't own one - have to be honest, but several of my friends do and they shoot with anything on the market. I don't like the design(s) either - but all I have seen are very accurate. I own an Encore, Omega, TC Hawkens, Renegades, NEF's, and a Savage.  My friends' Knights shoot right with mine.  I believe Knights use the Green Mountain barrels.  Green Mountain, in my opinion is a top notch barrel maker, and is an advantage for Knight's new product line.
I agree with you that Randy's statements are way over the top. Maybe Randy is looking for another sponsor.  (So what? Hype is hype.) TC has a well deserved position in the market - both muzzleloder and centerfire rifle, and Knight has a real mountain to climb to challenge them.  (No mention of price yet either.)
Having said that, I'll wait until there some out in the field and we hear and see some results. That will probably take a few years.  If it looks to be a great gun, and has something I like about it, and the price is right, I'll buy one.  I won't be getting rid of any of myTC's soon though.

They say imiitation is the sincerist form of flattery. Looks like Knight flattering the Encore. As far as his criticism of the Encore trigger pull and recoil, I find the rcoil of my Encore 209x50 very mild. Recoil of the Turkey barrel with heavy turkey loads is "stout", but the light weight of the gun might have something to do with that. Trigger pulls on the Encores I've seen were pretty good for factory rifles and if you want better it's an easy fix. I really wonder if the Knights at the Shot Show are representive of what will go to the public? That said I think it's great Knight is bringing out this gun, a little competition will keep t/c (or S&W) on their toes!

Other gunmaker have been copying T/C for years. Ever seen a CVA Optima Pro? It may be a fine rifle, but the stock design looks the same, break action looks the same, switch barrel, etc. The others can't touch the Encore, in my opinion. We'll see what the future holds now that Smith adn Wesson has acquired T/C.  I hope that they remain true to the T/C lines.
