Can the barrels of Savage 24F be shortened?

Has anyone here shortened the barrels of a Savage 24F or no if it can be done or not? I have a 24 in 22lr/20ga that is my main rabbit/squirrel gun but think it would be handier with an 18 1/2" barrel rather than the 24 and wondered if it can be done in a cost effective manner.
I am also interested in someday getting one of the 12 guage models and wonder if the same thing can be done with them and if the shotgun barrel can be rethreaded after shortening.
Any insight or experience will be much appreciated.

Can it be done?? Sure, but i bet you wouldn't like the price!! I've shortened Valmet 412 bbls., and it takes time to do it right. I don't think it's worth the cost on a cheaper gun..
