SOMEBODY SMACK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
« on: January 21, 2007, 04:46:17 AM »
I walked back in one of my spots last night hopeing to get a shot at the big male I had seen crossing the feild across from my house. I stepped over the hill and there he was, sitting up watching a coon at the other end of the feild and not a clue I was there. I dropped to my belly and craweled down the hill for a better shot, I got the cross hairs on him right below the front shoulder, easy, easy deep breath and squeze and a total miss :o I clipped a branch and now I am getting excited he runs broadside to me and I get off another shot but I must have lead him to much and hit in front of him because he turned and started running back to where he came. Now I am getting a little ticked on top of nerves so I let another one go with the same results only this time he doesnt have a clue witch way to run and he starts doing a circle and I mean kicking up some grass ;D so I let one more fly, Anyone counting shots yet  ;D 4 yes i said 4 and not a nick on him but I bet he went home and changed his fur  ;) ;D

SMACK!!!!    ;D  I would have missed after that first shot too, I am sure.  Then I'd have been smacking myself the whole way home.  I bet he didn't have to change his fur, all the crap you scared out of him fell out while he was running!!!

stanimals.       Welcome to the predator/Varmint hunting Forum

Tough Luck sir, Next time i bet you will make a sweep visually to make sure there is no branches in the line of fire. It's happened to all of us at one time or another, Just another lesson learned in life and learned the hard way. Where did the Coon go after this show? The difference between you and I is that we admitted it and some will never admit they missed a shot because of a branch. Best of luck to ya Sir......Joe........

Shot the top strand of a barbwire fence in two one time. I could see it in the scope and thought I would shoot over it. Cost me a nice eight point buck.

Got those beat ! wait until you shoot the string that is holding the camo net up for a blind right in front of you. Kind of like having your pants fall down around your knees at an inopportune moment I guess... You feel really exposed! .. We all have done some crazy things ;D

I can top that one, but it didn't happen while hunting......I was shooting across the trunk of my car one day, too muddy to get down on the ground where I was at, plinking at rocks.  First 3 or 4 shots were fine.  Then "BLANG".  I'd shot my radio antenna in half.   :P

It was a lot of fun trying to explain that one away.  I told the wife that my shooting bag rolled off the roof and bent the thing.  I don't think she bought it though.   :D

I can beat that one, Was out with my dad many many years ago shooting, well he couldn't get a good firm rest, so he laid his 30-06 over the roof of the car, when he touched it off it tore the vinyl roof off the car!  :o I have no idea how he ever explained that one, I know I laughed all the way home, he does too now.  ;D

A 3 inch ash tree jumped in front of a doe I was taking a perfect broadside shot at. She was about 50 yards away. I shot and waited for her to fall. When she didn't, I put the rifle back against my shoulder and hopelessly fogged the scope out with my heaving breath.

A buddy of mine did the same thing with a small oak tree.
It was his first shot ever hunting with a Muzzle loader . he missed the deer low but centered the Oak. We cut it about 5 inches above and below the bullet hole and mounted it on a plaque for him.
The Brass plate reads "Oak Buck, Killed by Bobby's Black Powder Gun"

Stanimals2:
Did you do that to your tool box at a range in Georgia? Saw a fella do exactly what you said
and just wondering if it might have been you. It wasn't a simple hole, it was about a 6 inch cut !

Okay, last year I was at my wife's uncle's house.  He's got about 10 acres or so, we can get a couple hundred yards off his porch/driveway.  Well, he's got cattle, and an electric fence strand running around the property.  I was shooting off the hood of the car (sound familiar?), and on the second shot, there was a BLANG (yep, it sounded the same as the antenna)  and a ton of sparks.  Yes, indeed you are correct, somehow I managed to shoot the electric fence in half.   :o  I wasn't sure if the sparks were because the fence was on, or just from the bullet itself.  Here I am, trying to figure out if the fence is on, so I can tie it back together before all of his beef cattle decide to flatten me on the way out.  I didn't know where the box for the fence was, so I went and got a piece of rebar to toss on the fence to see if it's on.  Thankfully, it wasn't, and I had my Leatherman with me, so I got it tied back together.  I figured I'd just keep my mouth shut, and hope nothing gets noticed.   :-X  A couple of weeks later, I was talking to the uncle, and he said, "so you shot the fence, huh?"  I started to say something, then he says "don't worry about it, I did the same thing the other day, that's how I noticed it had been tied back together."

At first, I thought things like that only happened to me.  After getting on this thread, my self-esteem has gone up a lot.   ;D

One of the first times I sighted in a slug gun at 50 yds. I had the target all set up on the tree stump and my equipment bag was accidentally left by another tree to the left side.  I fired 3 shells at the target, saw two hit and wondered where the 3rd wound up- you guessed it right through the equipment bag!  I laughed myself silly, but I always hated that slug gun setup since I could never get it to shoot as accurately as I wanted it regardless of what slugs I used. I don't use it for deer hunting anymore.
