suggestions on call sequencing on ecaller?
« on: January 21, 2007, 01:32:22 PM »
I built the homemade ecaller similar to the ones shown on this forum and varmintal.com and the sound is great.

When I downloaded and tried the sequences used on the varmintal.com web page, some of the sounds seem weird to me: jackrabbit and distressed chicken I think.  there are no jackrabbits around here and the distressed chicken sounds weird.  I think dying rabbits or turkeys would be more "natural" here. How do you know what calls to use and what sequence? Do you ever just set up a series of the same call, like greeting howl followed by distressed rabbit or do you go through a whole series of different calls like the varmintal sequence, throwing them out there to see what gets the yote to respond?

thanks from a first time yote hunter!

Since you've already been to Varmint Al's website, here's a sequence of calls for you to try. Start off with 2-3 interrogation howls and then go to a distressed rabbit or bird. I used a sequence similar to this late this afternoon and got a taker in approximately 5 minutes. He came in like he was being pulled in on a string and was locked onto the speaker. A 55 gr softpoint from my AR-15 ended things quickly. I use a FoxPro, since I hate picking up frozen speaker cable.   MI VHNTR
