ratltrap and I don't seem to agree on anything about the LeverEvolution ammo but I agree with him on this - if you're "ever lucky enough" to go hunt elk, take the .30-06. A rare elk hunt represents a big investment in time and money for non-residents - don't handicap yourself with a .30-30, regardless of the ammo.
I've hunted elk with a .44 Mag carbine, 7mm Mag, .300 Win Mag, .375 Win and .45-70. In the future I will probably use my .30-30, too. But I get to hunt every year and have been at it for 25 years - if I choose to carry a short range rifle and have to pass up a long range shot its no big deal. And its happened more than once, the result being a trip back home with no meat for the freezer.
