In regard to another topic on this forum entitled '12 or 20' I went to the website of American Barrel Company and read with interest.
http://www.americanbarrelcompany.com/So I called and had a very nice and informative conversation with a gentleman there regarding their 20 gauge barrels.
You see, I am one of those forgotten customers of that crappy company called Remington who tend to produce a product such as their 20 gauge STANDARD weight PRE 1977 1100 shotguns and then NOT make parts for them anymore, such as barrels, as they PROGRESS on !!! Let me NOT get on a rant here, LOL.
Anyways, current 1100 lightweight barrels do not interchange with pre 77 standard 20 gauge 1100 guns. I believe 870's are in the same boat, as far as the PRE 77 issue, lightweight versus standard weight 20 gauge guns, but I believe Hastings maufactures at least one barrel for a pre 77 870 standardweight 20 gauge(I could be wrong here).
I am fortunate to have a regular barrel for this gun and a smoothbore slug barrel, however, NO one, Remington, or any aftermarket manufactuer produce ANY barrel for a Reminton 1100 pre 77 standard weight 20 gauge gun that I am aware of, let alone a rifled slug barrel for it.
There must be a good market out there for such barrels, as I see ANY pre 77 20 gauge 1100 barrel in ANY condition going for big bucks on Ebay !!!!!
So in my conversation with this gentleman from American Barrel Company, this was discussed. He tells me that they will be producing barrels for 20 gauge 1100's and will have to look into the idea of manufacturing barrels for PRE 77 guns. He sugessted that I fill out the customer service center request form, available on their home page(which I did), requesting such. There is nothing I'd like to have more than a fully rifled cantilever barrel for this gun, and I am sure there are plenty of people out there that would also like one, so if you have a pre 77 Standard weight 20 gauge 1100 and want a rifled barrel for it, I suggest you fill out thier customer request form for such. Here is the link, just click on it:
