It's funny how things happen. --- A few months back, I was considering putting a 17 Aguila/PMC barrel on my 10/22.  I had heard the 17 Aguila was no longer with us, so I called PMC in Vegas.  They told me they knew nothing about a stop in production, for the 17.  Logically, these folks probably didn't know anything, at the time.  Too bad!

I have used 17 aguila quite a bit squirrel hunting. I really like the cartridge. I had a savage 17hm2 that shot the aguila real well. I got rid of the rifle because it was too heavy and bought a different hm2 and it will not shoot the aguila worth a hoot. The last time I looked you could still buy 17 aguila off the aguila ammo site.  www.aguilaammo.com

 The reason I asked is I bought one of the barrels off ebay for my 10/22. you don't need to do anything else to your gun to get it to shoot as you do with the 17hm2. I have a cz452 in 17m2 it will shoot, but does not feed all the time. with  my sons marlin it will not feed at all .with the barrel I bought off ebay it feeds great. I do need to put another scope on it.

Why use .17 Aguila/High Standard in a .17 mach2 at all ? it is a totally different round? And about 3 bucks higher a box to boot when you can even find it on the store shelves.

It instantly voids any warranties you may have on the firearm by shooting a cartridge in it that it was not designed for.
It couldn't be good for your chamber throat, or accuracy for that matter. I would not recommend firing any cartridge in a gun it is not designed for. A .270 WSM will probably fire in a .300 WSM but that might not mean that you should do it. Whoever Jesse is on that website to me is acting very irresponsibly by almost urging others to repeat his actions.. The shooting sport has enough problems without bad advice being given by those like him who are "Supposed " to be in the know about such things. Best to stick with the cartridge your gun is designed for.

So I guess you would not shoot .38 Special wadcutters for practice in a .357 Magnum revolver?
Or 2 3/4" 12 gauge shells out of of your duck gun chambered for 3" magnums?
How about ammunition manufactured by Winchester or Federal in a gun chambered for .35 Remington?
What the heck do you shoot in a 30-06 Springfield? Does Springfield make ammunition?....<><.... ???

I am looking forward to ordering some .17 Aquila for my .17 Mach2's, I think it will nicely fill a needed niche....<><.... :)

i've been known to fire form 303 Brtish in my 410 for brass cases! I also shoot 257 Roberts in my 257 Ackley and 7x57 in 7x57 Ackley..heck I even shoot 22 shorts and long out of my 22 long rifle!

Come to think of it I have shot many Colibris and even more Super Colibris out of my Marlin Model 60 with a 4x scope taking head shots at squirrels and crows in the yard. It works great, bang - flop, , no wait a minute, it 's more like poop - flop, not even a pop- flop. I have to load them singlely in the action , a real pain, and work the action manually to eject them since they do not have enough power to move the bolt back but thats easy enough. They are very accurate out to about 15-20 yards, as many many squirrels and more than a couple of ground feeding and tree roosting crows would attest to, if they were still around to attest to it. I now shoot the Super Colibris out of my H&R .22 LR Sportster that I have fitted with iron sights and that is just as accurate and much easier to load and the empties just pop out when I open the action. However if I feel I need for a scope for the shot with a Super Colibri I still reach for the Marlin Model 60 without hesitation....<><.... :)

P.S. - jrdavis, please tell me more about fireforming .303 British in your .410. Do you then load the fireformed brass as .410 shot shells or as .410 slugs? This sounds very interesting....<><.... :)

My .357s are recommended to shoot .38 spl Also...
Same with my 12 and 20 ga, shotguns shooting 2 3/4 or 3 in shells.
Strange that my manuals for my .17 mach 2s never mention the .17 Aguila...

Thanks jrdavis, I have been searching online and have not been able to find them anywhere. I just came back to this post to inquire if anyone knew where I could buy some and it looks as if you have read my mind. Thanks. Another problem I have is I live in the Peoples Republic of Taxachusetts where we cannot buy ammunition or loading suppiles through the mail, not even round lead balls for my ML's. The state says it will prosecute any company for sending ammo or many reloading supplies to a resident. Some companies do and no-one has ever been prosecuted but most large mail order companiers have been contacted by the state and are afraid to do so. It wil only get worse too, we have just had our first Democratic Governor in years elected, and he hates guns and hunting. I will have a friend in a nieghboring state order some for me and pick it up from him. After enlisting in the service to serve my country followed by almost 35 years behind a badge they have finally made a criminal out of me....<><.... :(

Ammo manufacturers or companiies cannot even ship directly to dealers or Sporting good shops in Massachusetts even if they have the proper licenses to buy and selll ammo. They can only sell or ship to licensed "Distributors", the local stores MUST buy ammo from Distributors within the state only!!! That adds another level of pricing to any ammo I try to order here. I called Natchez today and tried to order some .17 Aquila and some .17 Mach2 they have on sale and was told not to even waste my time trying to order ammo from them if I live in Mass. I am going to have friend in another state order it for me and I will pick it up from him next time I see him. Just think of all the criminals this is causing a problem for (none) and all the bank robbers that are being inconvienenced by this stupid "feel good" law (none). Now think of how many honest people are being inconvienenced by it (Thousand's!!!)....<><.... ::)

I have never tried that but just yesterday I did load some into the Magazine tube of an old Remington Model 34 bolt and another old Winchester "Sportsman" .22 bolt action I have and they each functioned just fine from the magazine tube. Of course both the Remington Model 34 and the Winchester "Sportsman" are each designed for .22 Short, long, and Long Rifle cartridges while the Marlin Model 60 is designed for .22 LR only. I will try it later today and get back to you....<><.... :)

OKTM7 here's the info, I just got back from the gunlocker. I loaded up 4 rounds of Super Colibri in one of my Model 60's and ran them through by manually working the action, all chambered and ejected fine. I then reloaded 2 rounds and chambered the first and fired it into a chunk of 2x4, no problems, worked the action manually and the fired round ejected fine and the next chambered great. I fired that one also and ejected it manually with no problem. Thanks buddy, all this time I have been chambering a single round each time I want to shoot a Suoer Colibri out of my Marlin Model 60 when all I had to do was load up the  tubular magazine and manually work the action...commence firing on the firing line!!!!. I really like my H&R Sportster in .22 LR that I specifically got for squirells and crows in the back yard, I got it because of the hassle of loading the Model 60 (and besides, I really like the H&R/NEF single shots) I had the barrel D&T'ed and put iron sights on it and it really is a great gun but I may just load up a Marlin Model 60 with about 20-25 Super Colibris and start using it again, it does have a nice Simmons 4x scope on it and is deadly with head shots on squirrels and crows using Super Colibris out to about 15-20 yards and perhaps a bit more but I have no need for more distance at this time....<><.... :)

My CZ shoots them great and they are alot easier on the meat.  I wanted to use the M2 for grouse and the Aguila 20 makes it work, the M2's just tear them up to much.

Hi lucky guy, I finally got my brick of .17 Aguila ammo for my .17Mach2's. I had to have it ordered by a friend in a nieghboring state and pick it up there because I live in that Socilaist state, Massachusetts, and it's getting even worse, we have our first Democrat Gov in years and he is a gun and freedom hating liberal, God please help us all.
Anyway, the .17 Aguila I got states on the box "Full Metal Jacket" and "Hollow Point". It is in fact a 20 grain bullet with a real tiny HP and the rest appeats to be metal jacketed. It was advertised at jacketed soft point ammo but after several calls to the retailer I bought it from and the Aguila importer in Texas it appears that Aguila made the change in bullet type without telling anyone and it is still being sorted out. What type bullet do/did you have in your .17 Aguila ammo and any comments or insight into the stuff I have?
From all my research I am looking forward to shooting it in my .17 Mach2's and expect great results....<><.... ;D

HI MSP,

The ones I have are in a grey box with a horiz. stripe pattern on the left side of the box.  It says full metal jacket and 20 grain, then also says solid point.  The case is a little shorter than the HM2, but the Aguila is the same overall length as the HM2.  The bullet is a lead core with a copper jacket.  The jacket is open on the end; the lead core comes not quite to the end of the jacket rim so it makes it look like a hollow point.

I hope they work for you!  I like em alot, time to order more.
