Public Hunting
« on: January 25, 2007, 01:11:25 PM »
What is the word about public hunting opportunities in KY?  I will be moving to Ft. Knox in a few months and want to know about places to hunt.  The on post system looks pretty complicated.

Any good places?

Go to the Ky. Dept. of Wildlife website, you should find the info there. ;D

Thanks Terry,

I'll take a look.  I'm excited to go to Knox.  I have a buddy that just came down to TX from there and says the hunting is pretty good.  Knox also has a very active highpower shooting community, which Hood does not for some reason.

I have hunted Ft. Knox, lot of deer, there is also alot of public land in Ky. with really good hunting (deer and turkey). There is also Elk hunting in the Eastern part of the state that is done on a draw, I forget when the deadline is for the elk draw and the Ft Knox draw but it will be in the info at the web site I mentioned. If you get out and look there is plenty of private land to hunt also, but it is getting harder to get permission. Land Between the Lakes offers alot of excellent hunting , It is done by a draw during gun season, but during bow season I think you can get a permit at the check stations to hunt,   Are you Military being stationed at Ft Knox?

Yes, I'm military.  After twp tours in the sandbox it's time for a few years off so I can spend time with my family.  Where I go is not as important as the time that I won't be deployed.  My daughter just quit crying every time she sees me in uniform.

I keep missing deer season and can't get a lease.  I'd like to line up some good public hunting that I can return to year after year.  I'm not so much into trophies as a place to take my kids and teach them.

Congrats on coming home, you guys have all the respect in the world from me and my family. At this moment the only place I have to hunt is in Washington county( lots of big deer). At that farm I can only take my son's but I'm constantly looking for other farms, stay in touch cause I might find a place where you could hunt also. If you enjoy fishing as well let me know and maybe we can wet a line sometime.

If you are coming to KY, try kentuckyhunting .net, and there are many public hunting areas not too far away from you and the hunting on Knox is supposed to be very good.

I dont think you will have any problems finding places to hunt. KY has a lot of public land and many landowners are more than willing to let you hunt.
