Starter round for savage 223 1 in 9?

I just ordered a Savage M200 in 223.  Just planning on using it for plinking and yotes when possible.  What would be a good inexpensive round to try out for fodder?  Have thought about the UltraMax with the 52 grain HP but don't want to get so focused on price that I buy junk.

Start with the Winchester White Box, They great for punching holes and seasoning a barrel.

My favorite load is 68 grain Hornadys over W760 Ball. Start @25 grains and work up. My Savage likes 27 grains exactly. It is a compressed load. I use the same amount of powder on 64 grain WW Power points with great accuracy.

This summer I'll start fooling with Varget, 3031, and Benchmark on 55 to60 grain bullets.

Jason the other fairly inexpensive .223 Ammo I have had great luck with is Remington Power Lokt 55 grain HP's. I will e-mail you a picture that is worth a 1,000 words. If you can and want to post the picture here you are welcome to, I cannot seem to post pictures here....<><.... :)

With a 1 in 9 twist you should do well with bullets upto 69 gr. Less than 50 gr. bullets may not work well especially at longer ranges. That statement is based on some long standing rules of thumb that are right sometimes.

The price, accuracy and ease to change the barrrels is what attracted me to the Savage/Stevens line. I see more than one in my future if the 223 works out.  I am particularly interested in your take on the stock.  I think mine is going to go to desert tan or OD green.
