No I didn't make a mistake, but a closer fit is excellent. The only concern is having a punch so small that the gas check edges aren't held square with the bullet during sizing. If you look at the gas checks on most commerecially produced bullets you'll see a relitively small indent from the pusher, and the check edges are not square with the bullet. I believe they do this regularly because it allows them to push plain base bullets nose first without marking the nose up, so they simply carry the same procedure over to gas checked.
If plain based bullets are sized NOSE FIRST with a close fitting pusher, the fin of lead which is swaged up in sizing will be sheared, or look very much out of square, whereas with a small punch the unlearned bullet purchaser will believe the bullets are perfect.
