da Big Brown Truck! da Big Brown Truck!...
« on: January 26, 2007, 06:36:05 AM »
...pulled up and took a big dump in my friendly dealer's driveway yesterday.  In amongst the flotsam was a new SB2-Y08 for my daughter and a pair of stripped AR lowers for me, finally!  He ordered these back before Christmas.

My dealer had never handled a Handi.  Now he wants one for himself, and I want a .280 even more.  Before leaving the shop I put a bug in his ear about becoming a Mueller dealer because there currently are none in Montana.

Hopefully I got a decent one.  Opening and closing is much easier than my 8yr old's H&R Greenwing Special 20ga.  In his words, this thing is "swicked!"  The trigger is even somewhat reasonable, breaking at 3.5-4.0 lbs on a dozen pulls from my "Delux" RCBS scale right out of the box.

Fortunately, I don't have rings yet.  This will qwell my urge to slap on a scope and head to the range before giving it a thourough cleaning.

BTW, in the last couple days Quik posted a link to an article on barrell break-in that involved pouring hot water down the bore.  I'm thinking I'd like to start with that too, before moving on to the J-B before slugging to get a feel of interior bore surface condition.  Can anyone point me to that link again?

Cordially,

Congrats on the new toys!!! Sorry, I don't remember the post you speak of, I looked at my posts back to the 21st, didn't find a  post on bore break in, maybe it was someone else or on another topic, the link below may have info on it, it was posted recently in reference to SAAMI pressures. There are some barrel break in procedures in the FAQ.

quick,

Thanks for the reply.  I apologize for incorrectly attributing a post to you.  I've been trying to re-trace my track through several forums trying to find that link again.  I've been lurking more here than anywhere else for the past several weeks so I just asumed I saw it here.

As I recall, the article I'm seeking was by a BR shooter about how he cleans up and breaks in a new barrel.  All the pages of the article were huge .jpg images of text, not text or html.
