use a 25 ACP on a omega or not
« on: January 26, 2007, 10:01:04 AM »
Does the 25 acp really help on fliers and blow back in the breech area. Is it easy to get the brass case into the breech with a scope on the rifle.I know the 209's are really hot and they do cause a mess around the breech plug.

I haven't got picked my omega up yet, probably will next week. Some guys I know are trying to talk me out of buying the omega they say there cheap made pieces of junk, I love the way it feels and it doen't look or feel like a cheap gun.

I have read alot of post about the omega on here and ya'll seem to be pleased with you're omega's. I don't think i'll be disoppointed. What do you think?

besides it has a lifetime warranty.. ;D

There is no more of a problem of putting in a 25 ACP case or a 209 primer in an Omega with a scope on it, for that matter the 25 ACP is a little easier. The Omega is not junk, they are well made muzzleloader's and shoot well. As far as the 25 ACP eliminating the fliers, I don't know, but I can tell you, my accuracy got better and I do not get any blow back. I don't think you would be disappointed.

I have the .25ACP conversion on my stainless Omega with a scope. It is a lot easier to prime and de-prime with the .25 vs. the 209. I also get less blow-back although my Omega is an early one and the blow-back was never a big problem. I do not think the accuracy was affected very much. It might be a little more consistent with the .25ACP but my Omega was pretty good with the 209 primers. I would not go back to the 209 if the accuracy was the same as the .25 is so much easier to handle. There is enough of the .25 case that is available to grab that even if the case were to be difficult to remove due to fouling it is a lot easier to grab it than trying to pry a 209 out of the gun. Personally I never had either one stick but some have.  My opinion is the .25ACP is well worth the money.

If you decide you want a 25 ACP breech plug and some new 25 ACP cases let me know, I have a spare one I will let you have for $45.00 shipped to you.  About $20.00 cheaper than a new one from PR.

Jake,
I have an Encore that shot excellent right away. Iv'e got a stainless- laminate Omega that shot so so, kind of inconsistant. Yesterday I sanded the top of the inside of the stock and put a washer over the two stock screws to free float the barrel a little more. With 777 powder and jhp-xtp bullets in the green sabot it shoots nice consistent 1 inch groups with a cold or warm barrel. Before I wrapped up the range session I fired two shots with no swabbing between shots for another 2 shot 1 " group. So anyway Jake the main point is that The Omega is simple to load shoot and clean and extremely accurate even though a few minor touches may be needed to tighten up groups.  I'd shoot the gun for a while before I went to the 25 acp but that's just me.

Jake if I were you I would shoot that puppy first, just to see how much blow back you have, before I bought an 25ACP.
Thats all she wrote.

The 25 ACP is great in the Omega.  Much easier to prime/deprime with cold fingers (hook fingernail in the ejector slot on the cartridge, rip it out easily).  I don't know about consistency, but it eliminated the crud ring for me and also blowback.

The first time you use a case it could closer harder than normal, but upon re-use they'll fit easily.
