don't do it! it seems to me that the standard blade up front in a standard square notch in the rear provides the best possible sight picture for target work, and therefore for harvesting game at whatever range is reasonable. that's probably why Elmer Keith and Jack O'Connor both (unknowingly?) agreed that such sights were the best for both Elmer's handguns and Jack's rifles.
Jack O'Connor is the one who put it into print, if i remember correctly, that such a set of sights offered the best possible aiming device for a firearm. Elmer modified his front sight with a couple of gold lines cut into the back of the sight for use when he needed further elevation for greater ranges. you can read about Elmer's set-up in various reference works.
