Help me pick a ML please !
« on: January 27, 2007, 12:24:23 PM »
Went Ml shopping today and found a few I might be interested in. but I'm not sure What's your take on the following in reguards to accuracy, quality and ease of operation.

    1. Traditions pursuit XL with fluted bbl and ported
     2. Traditions drop block Yukon
     3. CVA Kodiak
     4. T/C z5 wearhewr shield (same as an 0mega)

I expect to buy one in the next few weeks after I sell my T/C blackdiamond.
     Which one and why ?

Buy American, stay away from the Spanish guns unless you just want to shoot up to 100 grains of powder.  TC has a full lifetime warranty also that is second to none. I would recommend the Omega Z5 for that reason. The TC guns are sabot shooters though. Why trade in the Black Diamond?  Keep it and get the Omega Z5 too, so you have a backup.

If you want a conical shooting very accurate rifle go with a White. They are getting hard to find though, but are the most accurate conical shooters made. Just my opinion with experience.

Get a T/C and be done with it, you won't be disappointed.

If you're looking at the traditions line, go for the XLT with thumbhole stock, well atleast give the thumbhole stock a try and see how you like it.  i loved the thumbhole stock on the xlt. Yukon drop block is also good, but before you decide, what bullets do you plan on shooting? sabots/conicals? a mixture of both?

The day I got rid of my CVA Kodiak was one of the happiest days of my life. Encore now.

Savage ML2 if you can shoot smokeless.  You will not look back.  If regulations change, you can still shoot any of the subs.

Go with the Traditions or look at an NEF Sidekick. But I also, have a CVA Kodiak Pro mag. and love it.

Stick with T/C if you can afford to. You get what you pay for. CVA and Traditions are low end rifles that will give you low end performance.

T/C and Knight are the way to go.  I've never been disappointed with any of the standard ML rifles.  Encore's are another story I won't get into this time.  I have the Omega Z5 blued, synthetic stock and I like it alot.  I have a Black Diamond, and like it as well.

The only load I've shot in the Omega is a 250gr Shockwave and two 777 pellets, but it will shoot well under an inch for 3 shots at 100 yds with it, so I don't even know if I'll use anything else in it.  Trigger is fabulous--light, crisp, no creep at all.

The Yukon is a crapper if you ask me.  Junk action and just junky feeling.  The Pursuit rifles handle well, but they still feel cheap.  Same with the Kodiak.  Pot metal parts on all of them.  Triggers on the one's I've tried felt like 5 miles of bad road.  20 years from now, I don't think you'd still be shooting the CVA or Traditions.  They will have given up the ghost.  Not so with the T/C.

That TC Black Diamond a much better gun than the CVAs and the Tradition mentioned.    Keep it.   Treat yourself to a new scope for it or something.

just make sure you buy yourself a scope cover so all the blowback doesnt ruin its finish. diamonds are known for their massive blowby.

Come on now.  Any rifle with an open breech will leave residue on the scope, whether it's a T/C, CVA, Traditions, Knight or Winchestser.  It's inherent to the design, and only the Knight Disc and Austin & Halleck rifles are known to have little or no blow back.

I once had a scope mounted on my winchester and it didnt leave any fouling on the scope. A lot of it comes down to the primers and i find the regulat shotgun CCI primers to be the cleanest. They also helped me tighten my groups. Those rem. kleanbore primers were giving me horrible grounds.

You wouldnt believe the nasty crud is left all over my rifle, after 3 shots i had to pull the bolt and wipe all the thick fouling off. When i would shoot, i would just watch a steam of sparks fly out of the side. Horrible primers. But CCI's i really love those.

The CCIs gave me a crud ring. I switched to the Reington 209-4 and the Winchester Triple Se7en primers  and the crud ring vanished.

With the rem primers i had a bad crud ring. But i still want to try those win. triple 7 primers, they are just hard to come by here and im not ordering a 1000 primers and find out they do me no good. So for right now the cci's are doing great for me.

I got the crud ring with the Remington primers, but the 777 primers are great.

It's been my experience over the  years that you get what you pay for in guns. I have owned 2 bl. diamounds and several custoum built ml's and now i hunt with the T/C encors. You might also look at the M. D.M. muzzleloaders made in Vermont. Hope this helps. Duke45

Do you have one of these ML's?  Do you like, does it shoot well?

I have heard some really bad things about these ML's from other hunters.  They can't stand thier MDM and can't get it to shoot worth a hoot!  I have never shot one, just read about them.

You'll be happy with it.  Try putting the Black Diamond on the classifieds page to sell it.

Country Boy, you need to move your add to the classified M/L section. I will leave it here for a couple of hours and then edit your post to remove it. Thanks for your corporation.  ;D
