Night hunt

I would like to shoot some prairie dogs one of these days, and I do have some places to call coyotes!!!  It's quite possible we could set something up after deer season.  What is the best time of year to shoot prairie dogs?  How many shots could a person expect to get in a half day or so?  Is it safe to shoot a high-power rifle in your area?  How about bringing a buddy along?  Thanks.
