Recieved New Model Super Blackhawk Yesterday
« on: January 29, 2007, 03:37:30 AM »
This was an anniversary gift from my Wife & grown children. It is the New Model Super Blackhawk in the .44mag ;D

I recon that they got the idea a few months back as I was looking at a super blackhawk in the Hunter model but decided to pass.
This new one is not the Hunter model but we didnt want a sewer pipe atop our S/A revolver anyway did we ;) (if you like them, I say Great & to go for it)

While I really had been gravitating towards those shorter barreled, handy pieces, this one happens to be the 7-1/2" satin stainless. I quickly decided that it is a keeper though!

The Balance is better than my Vaquero as it has more weight to the rear that may be due to the heavier cylinder frame. The grip seems to be abit larger but that may just be me.
Please note that I have no problems with the balance of the Vaquero. It is just that the Super blackhawk just seems to settle in abit better.

I really like the hammer design out at the tip along with the partrige sights and have noted that the barrel warning stamping has been moved to just below the ejector housing.

The waters get muddy after this for me as I really cannot tell you the difference between a Super blackhawk & a New Model Super blackhawk ???

This new one will be cleaned & lubed then Shot!
I will get around to slugging the barrel & Cylinder throats soon though.
I plan on starting the loading with the dirty U powder and working up to the classic hunting load powders as listed in most manuals but also plan to give the 2*** a chance.
Will probably start with a 240gr Jacketed bullet.
(Please note the Policy here on posting loading info) (is well thought out & I agree with it)

Supers have a Dragoon grip frame (square back to the trigger guard). The hammer spur is wider too. Other than that they are mostly the same.

Thanks KentDep
I am so ignorant on this common, reliable model that I cannot even tell you if all the Supers have the New Model markings on them.

Thanks Lloyd,
I guess the only thing that remains is to get out there and beatup my fingers alittle ;)
Naww, not really. Want to see how accurate it is then build from there. Will be very happy with it if it shoots as good as my Vaquero.

All .44 rugers are marked super and all are marked new model.

I don't understand this statement.

My Ruger .44 is marked 'RUGER SUPER BLACKHAWK' but not 'NEW MODEL'.

Neither is it marked 'OLD MODEL', since it wasn't an 'OLD MODEL' until the 'NEW MODEL' was introduced.

What am I missing here?
