Am I the Only One?
« on: May 05, 2003, 05:10:47 PM »
Hi,

I never see anything written about the Buckmark Silhouette version with the 14" barrel.  I bought it for bowling over ground squirrels (it also works on the tree-dwelling variety) at distance.  I've never had the opportunity to shoot a rimfire silhouette match but squirrels are everywhere.  It has a Burris 2-7x32mmAO scope with Millet rings.  Firing off-hand, it knocks over pop cans at 100 yards with monotonous regularity.  Firing from the reclining position with my right knee drawn up, it will break pieces of clay pigeon on the 100 yard berm.  With better ammo, who knows?  Anyway, I was just wondering whether I am the only person who still uses one of these.  I like it so much that I bought the short one with the 9 7/8" barrel for close-quarter combat against sabertoothed groundhog and the like.

I have the Varment model, I believe its the 9-7/8 you described. Added a nice little forarm for it. Shoots pretty good but not as good as I expected. My 5-1/2" ruger 22/45 will out shoot it.  KN

I guess we're it, KN.  I've got the fore ends on both of mine (came with 'em).  I plan to get a set of those beautiful Nill grips for them too.  Of course at those prices they'll have to learn to share.

The short one will eventually get a red dot sight too.  Do you know what the big difference is between our guns and the Browning Medalist?  I know the Medalist is a target pistol but it looks like a Buckmark with nice wood to me.  I saw one for $1900 once.  That's a little steep, in my book, for something that launches .22 rimfire ammo.

I really haven't kept up on the browning models. I know there are several that are basically the same except for barrel length ,grips, and the gold trigger. I bought mine on a whim several years ago.  KN
